Common Sense goes out the window when a safety first obsession is engaged. Common Sense is trumped by the concept that NO risk is acceptable. To some self described "healthy living" folks, ALL risk no matter how insignificent must be reduced or be eliminated, no matter what it costs. Even if the alleged risk doesn't even exist.

Agreed. My question is, who would accept the liability issues concerning containers leeching carcinogens into consumables? I doubt any company would take that risk. I'll continue to re-use my trusty sports drink bottles.

As I've said before, IF your off-the-shelf bottle was leeching, the primary risk will be from the initial use where it's been sitting on a shelf for who-knows how long. Someone who refills a container will likely use it almost immediately.

That the govt. labels something non-refillable has more to do with the ability (or desire) to sanitize a container prior to the refill. I doubt anyone gave more than a half-second's though to reusing a plastic container, as they were designed as disposable from day 1.

I use my LBS's bottles- A&B Cycle, although I hear they're made by Specialized.
I also use 1 liter Nalgene bottles, and most recently my 1 liter Sigg knockoff made by Target.

That Aluminum bottle is my favorite.

Yeah, no kidding. Arrowhead figured out how not to make it taste like plastic. Polyethelene and am still alive -- go figure. (upside-down keeps the bottle snug in the cage). "Non-refillable" is just marketing speak meaning "buy more."

Just add a splash of pomegranate or cranberry juice and you won't take the plastic.

I use the Klean Kanteen too. You can purchase a sport top for it also. I still have the normal lid on mine though.

I use them and highly recommend them. Even with rinse and refill daily, my old bottles still gave a plastic taste to water after a couple of hours. These bottles don't. 'nuff said.

Bottle looking nice but I always use a stainless steel water bottle, because it doesn’t taste as plastic.

I can't remember if this is the same thread I posted in a few days ago, but I tried a stainless steel water bottle and was disappointed that I couldn't freeze it, so I went back to plastic with a Polar Ice bottle. Regardless of what the marketing (and many, many users) said, it tasted like plastic, even after a lemon scrub and a run through the dishwasher. Ultimately, the company offered a refund, but suggested that I first try dissolving two denture-cleaning tablets in it. I believe this may have solved the problem and I highly recommend it to anyone having trouble removing the plastic taste from their bottle(s).

Now, there's still the issue of the REASON plastic bottles tastes like plastic, and it sure doesn't seem safe or healthy...
