It looks a little later than early 30s to me, mostly because the lugs are a little fancier than early thirties Wastyns I've seen. Oscar died in December, 1968, at the age of 58 so he was born around 1910. He learned framebuilding from his father, Emil, and they built "Wastyn Special" and "Wastyn Custom" track bikes for six-day racers, and they also built most of the early Paramounts for Schwinn. It's possible but unlikely he was building frames with his own name on them in the early thirties. I think late thirties/early forties or immediately post-war would be a better guess unless you have evidence it's from the early thirties.

Emil and Oscar both taught many of the better known American framebuilders the trade, so they are an important part of custom framebuilding in America. I can't even estimate its value, but to some collectors it would be highly prized. I have a 1940 Schwinn Paramount track bike built by Oscar.

Here's a 1936 Wastyn Special build by Oscar. More pictures are on the Wastyn Cycles website at https://www.wastyn.com/Photos.php

Thanks for the reply Scoops. Yours is really nice. I have talked to a good friend of Oscar JR and he is telling me it is pre 1934 and one of the original Oscar built ones. He said something about the pinstriping and the stays being the way they are is what helps him the most. I live 30 miles from Wastyn Cycles but have not had a chance to go in yet with the bike.

If you're that close to Wastyn's, you should take it in and have them take a look at it. Oscar Jr's son, Scott, is the operations manager and I'm sure would love to see it.
