My new ride, TREK Checkpoint ALR5, and wow, I have never felt so much a part of a bicycle as I do with this one, its amazing!!! I had put an FX on layaway last early this year, and paid it off but TREK kept putting the receiving date back and back, was hoping to get the new bike as a gift for my 65th birthday so when I saw this one in their showroom I paid the difference and took it home. Put some tubeless tires on it and wow, this ride, performance, power, and just sexy good looks have me very very happy!!! Todays 42 miles were put on it!!
That’s a sharp ride! And it matches the Jeep.

Well, we've had 70 degree windy weather here in Chicagoland, and I'm happy to say I've ridden about 13, 19, and 20 miles in 3 rides, but they're probably my last rides of 2020. It's getting cold and staying windy, which is enough for me to go on strike. I just don't feel safe when the wind is above 15 mph, and I'm too cold for comfort when the thermometer is under, say, 52 F. I lost 4+ weeks to health issues this Summer and rode just over 1,100 miles. My goal was 1,500, so I think I might have missed it even without the health issues, but it's been a good biking year. And there may be a few more days of riding yet.... One Christmas (1982?) the thermometer hit 70.

I'd consider moving south, but the warm weather seems to be moving North. I wish it weren't so windy, though.

November goal: 150 miles (updated - was originally 125 miles)

November 3 - 16.0 miles
November 4 - 8.3 miles

November 5 - 10.6 miles
November 6 - 11.5 miles
November 7 - 62.8 miles

Saturday 11/7 had a great forecast, so I decided to "ride my age" in miles. The weather turned out to be even better than the forecast, and I made it: 62 years, 62 miles. It took me most of the day, though.
This was also my longest ride in 2020 and my longest ride since I rode my age in October last year.

November to date: 109.3 miles

2020 to date: 2389.0 miles
2020 goal: 2100 miles - made it

2020 stretch goal: 2400 miles

All my miles are outdoor miles on a 2011 Fuji Absolute 3 (unless otherwise noted)

Another errand, the same one, actually, just had to do it again. Getting better at mounts and dismounts on this bike (at stoplights), get to learn all over again when the shoes and cleats get here, and I think I'm getting faster. Also, looking for potholes to test the suspension in, instead of trying to avoid them.

Jeez, I’ve been off the bike for almost 2 weeks due to travel and vacation. Bad news, I’m almost back in the club weight wise. So.....I need to get my butt out there again.

Nov. goal 600 miles. Eta is hurting us weather wise this week.

From now until...probably April, I'm committing only to one ride per calendar week. That may seem laughable, but when we get into snowstorm season, it will be challenging to get even that.
I'm jumping in. I think I can make 100, even though the weather is about to nosedive again.

At least I'm on the board - gotta start somewhere.....ETA rains cut short a planned longer ride. Feels great being on the bike again!

Did you post pics of your new bike? LOL, you'd better practice mounting/dismounting. My first experience on the old Trek, in front of about of abut 20 people, was embarrassing (I'll leave it at that). Our roads are getting worse everyday, it seems. If this keeps up, I may have to go with a true hybrid.

Yup, the bike is shown in post #45 in this thread. Out of an abundance of caution, my two forays with the MTB have been at night, in part to minimize anyone’s observation of foolish mistakes. I don’t have the shoes and cleats for these pedals yet, they’re due any day now, so I’ve been riding somewhat pigeon-toed in my sneakers to avoid catching my heel on the center of the crank, causing my foot to slip off that little pedal and sending my behind down hard on the saddle, but have done it anyway a couple of times. When doing that after a light turns green and there’s no momentum to keep you moving, the pavement looks like your face’s next destination, but so far I’ve avoided that. I’ve also started looking for potholes to try out the suspension (they’re not hard to find). That’s kind of fun, but seems counterintuitive after thousands of road-bike miles trying to avoid them.
