1958 brake on Campy DT levers?

Had not looked much at the bike (1958 Drysdale) before, but as I am working on it now, had not noticed this. I thought this era, I'd be seeing the downtime levers on a band. But there are 'tabs' brazed on. On a newer bike, the central "barrel" stays with the frame, brazed on, and everything else comes off. On this frame, "gentle" prying does not loosen the backing plate with cable guide, nor the disc that the lever enters on adjacent to it. Could those be integral to the brazed on part, meaning further prying will damage the part? Or by definition will it come off. Getting ready for the oxalic acid bath, I kind want it removed first -- if possible. Never seen on like this before.

Without a better photo (focus, please! ) I hesitate to give you an answer. I don't know what Campy offered by way of braze-on shifter mounts at this period. But in my experience with band-mount shifters, the stop (the part you want to remove) can't be removed from the assembly without damage. Could it be that old Mr. Drysdale modified a set of band-mount shifters and brazed them on?

I can take another photo, but with my digital camera's lack of a macro lens, I'm looking at a further-away image to get good focus and not sure it would help. I suspect you are right and this is as disassembled as it gets, so it will need to be masked prior to the powder coating. It's just... odd. I cannot say, but I guess it's possible this is indeed a chopped-up set of banded levers; anyone ever see something like this?

See this recent thread for a discussion of the same. Seems this was somewhat common.

They existed.
i have them in a 1958 frame
not the same type as shown here- no “lug” extensions.
the thick washer and backing plate are separate I am pretty sure, perhaps just married to the frame by habit.

Thanks. I guess when the frame emerges form the acid bath, I'll perhaps see more clearly if they are removable. Otherwise, I'll "cope with it" and mask as needed. At least seeing another brand with it (and great to see another Drysdale in that thread!) means it's not a bodge job.
