Is this a good deal for a Vaya?

Seems like it is for $600, despite the unknown bar end shifters. Anything else stands out?

AFAIK, there are no "cheap" bar end shifters, most everything on the market seems to be of more than serviceable quality.

Although, not having any clue as to the competency of the wheelbuilder, those homemade wheels may give me pause.

I'm very well aware of the new price. This appears to be a custom build with better components, hence it's difficult to price and it looks a bit "too good to be true"

Thanks. Good point about the wheels. It didn't occur to me the seller is likely the builder.

if wrong sized frame the question is moot.

If the bike fits I don't think it's a bad deal. I'd be a little leery of the wheels and would change the spinny-chainy bits, but that's about it.

Looks like a good deal to me. I'd be curious about wear on the drivetrain - you may need cassette and a couple of chainrings. I think it would have been smarter to have the front rim (freq) on the rear and the rear rim (kom) on the front. BTW, you can likely remove the decals from those rims, in which case they would appear identical, and in my branding-makes-bikes-ugly opinion, look better.

I've never seen a Vaya listed for that low. Is there enough room to move the stem up/down? It doesn't look like there's much space in the photo, but it's hard to tell.

Looks to be one spacer at the most, if that.

To the OP that is a good price if it is clean/good condition. I had close to $2000K into mine and it sold for $900 (bare - no fenders or rack) - a good deal I thought.

You could easily check the tension/true, or have a competent LBS do the same. I'd say they could be made top shape as long as starting with good parts. First, the WTB tires very nice and the Frequency rims are quality.

A note on the Vaya. I liked it ok as an all-round bike. However, for touring with a medium load it was a bit too flexible for me.

Thanks, all. Looks like I snoozed for too long and it's now gone. Guess it wasn't meant to be. It was the right size, but it'd be a 35 minute drive through the city WITHOUT traffic to check it out.

I never bought a used bike before, especially a custom build, so I learned a few things here. You're right about the stem, at first I thought it was just the angle of the picture but it does look cut/slammed. While the cassette and such I can easily replace, replacing all the little things + wheels + fork would not be worth it to me.
