Folding bike + hitchhiking
Has anybody experimented with this? Long shot perhaps, but wondering about people's experiences if so!

I biked across the country twice. I had to hitch rides during a major storm & after bike breakdowns. I have not hitched in a while, but I always pick up hitchhikers.

I hitched to school every day of my high-school career (after enduring the long bus ride on day one) and never failed to get a ride. In return, I pick up hitchhikers (unless they look smelly) when I can. I doubt that many drivers would be put off by the notion of putting your bike in the trunk; actually, the curious little item may actually encourage drivers to stop.

I personally haven't yet but want to and have asked the same question. I think it would be easy, as my Brompton already attracts a ton of attention (in rural areas) and I can fit my whole touring rig (self-supported) on my lap in the front seat of most cars.

As a kid I hitch hiked with a flat tire a couple of times. If you have a pump you could lower the tire pressure of one of your tires and stick out your thumb... Where I live in Montana more than half the vehicles on the road are pickup trucks. Easy to get a ride with full sized bikes in pickups.
