Hello from Huntsville AL

Hi,

I used to bike to work occasionally, but haven't had a bicycle for a while and now work too far away from home. Recently picked up an old road bike and am trying to figure out how to get back into recreational riding.

Anyone here go to Bikes-n-Brews or planning to go to the Tweed Ride in Huntsville?

Welcome back to cycling.

We do have a few BFers on here from N AL, but I'm not one of them - B'ham area for me. My "cycling" trips to Huntsville have only been as a official - which means I ride one safety check lap around a course, and that's it.

Welcome to cycling here in AL, too. There are quite a few cyclists up in the Trussville area, some ride down and join us on rides leaving from B'ham during the week.

Hi, welcome back, we are from Priceville and are new to the sport. We have not been to any organized rides in the area. Going to have to get speed up before we tackle anything like that. Today we rode from Mooresville to the airport and back. This was our longest ride yet. I'm just excited to hear from another local.

Well I'm trying to get back on the roads of North Alabama. When I moved down here from Connecticut it was a bit of a shock - I missed the super wide shoulders for snow. The hills, the rail trails, the pizza. Oh the pizza.

Anyway, I need to get back on the bike - and not just on my trainer.

I'm in Athens area, and this is not the easiest place to ride. Pick up trucks just seem wider when I'm on a bike and the roads get more narrow.

I'm looking to buy a steel bike, this weight I'm carrying doesn't care for the old aluminum frames, did I mention pizza ?

Are there still rides from the Jet Plex parking lots? I know there is still a Saturday ride from Greenbrier - did that a few years back before all my peeps moved away.

How is the riding in Priceville?

I don't know about the Jet Plex, but I remember going on rides out in Greenbrier with my boy scout troup. I want to go out that way again sometime

Well I botched the old road bike I was trying to fix up. So I'm still bikeless :-/

Hey, to you fellow Bamians I live in Montgomery with my great family. Been here for 28 years after retiring from the Air Force.

Just getting back to cycling and am trying to re-build my old bike that's been in storage in the back yard for over 30 years. Not a great bike, but it's mine and getting my hands dirty with it will give me a better idea how to care for and keep a newer bike - maybe someday. Not into long distance rides, races, or anything other than some different exercise and taking of my own old frame

So got the new bike last year and only have a few hundred miles on it. Work has gotten to be a bit of an ordeal trying to ride, then the usual weather. So I brought my old bike inside, got a smart trainer and set up Zwift. Have to admit, I'm loving Zwift. My legs are burning. I've done over 100 miles on Zwift, and no dogs have tried to bite me, no cars have tried to hit, and I don't spend any time taking my bike somewhere to ride.

Any other Zwifters around here?

How so?

I've been off the forums for a good while, but I poked in here. Another Huntsvillian here. I got back from Germany where I rode a bike almost everywhere and realized how much I missed it. I've been riding to work some since. I may do a group ride or two, but I'm kind of down to just wanting to do some fun rides like Bikes-n-Brews and spin down a bit for coffee or to pick up some groceries. I'm not huge into doing the hammerhead rides like I used to, at least until I get back into better cycling shape. Climbing hurts right now.

I don't actually remember. I think I wasn't prepared for the rims that needed rim tape and I blew out the tubes I put in.

Cycling in Germany sounds awesome. I don't even own a bike right now since I moved out of town, just the commute by car takes too long :-/
