The only problem with energy derived from alcohol is that it won't enhance your workout or help with recovery. Most of that energy will be wasted on digesting the alcohol.

Also, as I understand it, alcohol interferes with the body's use of macronutrients which probably isn't good.

That's why I avoid drinking on my lifting days when I do strength/conditioning workouts... I'll have one beer after dinner before bedtime only on my non-lifting days, bike riding days or days when I don't workout...Beer doesn't seem to interfere with cycling as much as it interferes with weight training.
