Hello from S.E. Louisiana

Hello from the Northshore of Lake Ponchartrain, about 45 miles north of New Orleans. I do most of my cycling along the St. Tammany Trace, a paved Rails to Trails project, hence my user name of tracerider. I'm in my early 60's and ride for exercise and recreation. I'm looking into getting a flat bar road bike or some sort of hybrid for a more upright riding position, have been making do with a modified Trek 8700 mountain bike. I can no longer ride my old Colnago road bike but I do look forward to getting it restored.

Welcome to the forum. I live in Metairie and ride the Trace from time to time. It's really a fantastic place to ride. You'll get more feedback on bikes in one of the bike forums, but I will say this. DO NOT assume a flat bar road bike will be more upright or more comfortable. I made that mistake.

Welcome! That Ponchartrain is a pretty lake. What kind of Colnago is it?

An '82/'83? Super, Mostly Campy Record equipped. Down tube shifters. Rusty chrome fork needs re-chromed.

Welcome. Your bike sounds really nice. Nothing like classic Colnago and Campy together.

She needs restoring and sadly I have trouble riding a road bike these days due to back and neck issues, but maybe again someday, who knows? I do want to get it restored to her former glory.

Thanks for the welcome. So what was your solution to the flat bar road bike dilemma?

The first flat bar road bike I bought had very harsh ergonomics. Way too racy. And with only one hand position. I went to a drop bar road bike and was much more comfortable. Now I have an endurance geometry road bike and a touring frame with flat bars and bar ends. Be sure to get a good demo before you buy. My wife wanted a good quality lightweight bike, but she doesn't like pressure on her wrists. I built her a carbon fiber performance cruiser. The background in the photo should ring familiar with you.

@Paul Bernard, nice build on the Marin bike. Yeah, that place is very familiar, haven't been inside for years, I live about 3/4 of a mile or less from there. I need to learn more about currently available frame geometries.
