Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

And the felt is made in America?

I think not.

And it doesn't matter. Get a bike that is right for you. Who cares what the sticker says?? Plenty of "made in Italy" bikes were made in China or Taiwan and "finished/assembled" in Italy...

Get a Serotta, Firefly or IF if you want American. Or Dornbox, Zanconato, Budd, Mooney, Sachs, and I could go on and on. These are the true American builders if that's what you mean.

Not that there's anything wrong with that...

I find it strange how you Americans tend to want to "buy American".
We don't have that sort of nationalism around here ... it's very peculiar.

As datlas rightfully pointed out most "made in X" products are simply made in Taiwan or similar countries and then assembled in the country X.
With bikes the brand is just a name painted on a frame anyway ... the frame being a thing to hang all kinds of components on.
Do you think most "American" bike manufacturers actually make their frames in the USA?
Do you think a component company like SRAM actually manufactures their stuff anywhere but in Taiwan?

Of course not

Whether or not a company is "American," is not an easy answer, in most cases.

it may seem pointless and i know things wont change right away, but i think the country i live in, could use some more support. people are so quick to turn around and buy something from another country and not support their own for quality. if i had the money the i would find a frame builder and go through them but i dont so the least i feel i can do is support a company that is based out of my home country

and as a side note when i worked construction we never used chinese shackles because they would break where as an american shackle would bend out of shape if it was stressed beyond its capacity before breaking.

Kona?

No, really, it's true. I won a bet with a Canadian; I risked North Dakota becoming a province, but as it happens, BC became a state.

Do you try to buy all your other material things with supporting an American company in mind? Or is it just bikes?

If you want "made in America" buy a custom from a local builder.

The OP said he wants to buy from a US-owned company, not necessarily Made in America. That's like wanting to buy a Ford rather than a Honda because the parent company is US based. Is it really such a hard concept to grasp?

This frame was American built (it says so on the downtube):

Add a SRAM groupset, and Zipp/Easton/SRAM/Ritchey/AM Classic/etc. (all American based companies) wheels and/or components, and you have yourself what you are looking for.
