I went to Performance Bike the other day to pick up some socks and saw a great deal on a Fuji Road bike. I forgot which model it was, but it had an Ultegra groupset, carbon fiber frame & fork and was going for $1599. I'm not sure how good Fuji's are (I've only owned Trek & Specialized), but I thought it was a steal!!! The only bad thing was that it was an ugly red color that I didn't care for at all (not a big fan of red). Anyway, I'm not in the market for a bike or anything, but I'm just a bit curious - Would the color have any influence on your decision to buy a new bike?

Sometimes, my Bianchi's are celeste, that is my preferred color for a Bianchi. Color didn't influence my decisions for the other bikes. The fit and components were more important.

I like White and Black. White and red, Black and white and black and Gold and black and silver. I like red and white and red and yellow. I am indifferent about Green or Blue. I don't really care for orange but if the price was right I doubt if it would stop me.

I agree in that there are other things that are definitely more important than color, but for me to be 100% happy, I think I'd have to get a color that I like.

I like blue, black, and white in any combination. I guess i don't mind red as long as it's just an accent color and not the primary color of the bike. The bike I saw was a deep red with black lettering... just not my cup of tea.

If you like the colour, then buy it. If not, then don't. If you don't like the colour, you may be constantly regretting the purchase.

I think that color is more often a veto factor than a motivator.

I remember one fellow telling me he'd take the next one off the line regardless of color. The very next words out of his mouth were "Not green."

I don't like black bikes; whether that is because I prefer a color that makes me more visible or that I don't like black, I can't say. I don't like black cars either. I keep telling myself that fit is more important. I think of a car as a utility item and am not as fussy about color. But to me a bike is more personal and when I am spending $3.5k on a bike that I am going to keep for the next 10 years, a color that I find ugly is not an option. For people who change bikes frequently, perhaps color is less of an issue.

I personally prefer flat metallic silver or white on a bike. I just like the look of the silver paint in contrast to the metal. When it comes to cars I like white because its so visible. My motorcycles are all red, after all red paint makes it go faster...

My very first drop bar when they only had 6 speeds was Red. My first 10 speed was a Schwinn Varsity, sort of Burgandy. Then a Continental, Black. Got my first light weight road bike in Silver, Viscount Areospace Pro. But when I got back into cycling have moved back and forth.

I'm particular about reds. Won't have pink, yellow, orange, purple, some greens, some blues. Most browns are okay, as are some greens, some blues. Black is fine, too. Radagast the Beige-and-Black is just that: the beige bits and the black bits fade into each other. Orion is a nice, even green, neither too blue nor too yellow. The Black Pearl is, well, black.

With a vintage bike, color will play an important part in how much I am willing to spend for the bike. I'd pay more for a color I like. I just passed over an eBay bike because of the color, even though the price was okay.

I dislike dark grey/silver and burgundy on a bike, but light silver is okay. My favorite bikes are blue and I do like brighter colors.

Maybe...in today's world I have more problems getting a bike that will fit, so color is a secondary issue. However if I happen to find a color combo I like....WATCH OUT! (it is getting yellow/black harlequin wrap on the handlebars )

I was thiking about putting treking bars on the Masi but I sold it to buy Sram Force suifters for my first Lapierre. Sooner or later I will find a bike I can try those bars.

Number 1 factor for me is price.a good deal it is preferable than Colors.

My first road bike, two years ago was all about looks, colour because I did not know much about components and so. I ended up with a good quality bike though, a WHITE (what I wanted) Giant Avail 2. Last week all of a sudden there was this nice bike in the store, it was for sure an upgrade from what I have. And that's all that matters; quality, performance and price. Colour was not an issue at all! The Cannondale CAAD 9 came in Jet (matte) black and that's a bonus. Its just funny how I was all about colour and this time not at all.

Pink? Most of us can be fine with white, red, black or a combo of those. It's the odd ones that could be a deal breaker. Wish more bikes would do something more like a project one for the choices.

Anybody who can see, and thinks they are not influenced by colour, is kidding themselves. There are all sorts of psychological studies that show that our responses to objects, and even to placebos that we believe to be drugs, are strongly influenced by their colour.

Green, for instance, is very easy on the eye - literally. Our retinas are very receptive to it. Possibly as a result of this it is generally perceived as tranquil, calming and so on. I'd be prepared to speculate that many people would find green a more appropriate colour for a touring bike than a full-on road or time-trial bike; I certainly would. Conversely, I'd be more sympathetic to bright red being a good colour for a road bike than a tourer, because red is a highly charged colour that is perceived as hot, emotional and so on.

My own road bike is black. One might think that is neutral, and certainly I am not conscious of it having played a part in my decision, but I like it in black and suspect there is something about understatement, concealed power, associations with the sinister that work for me.

I'm not for a moment suggesting that we'd buy a bad bike in the right colour rather than a good bike in the wrong colour, but I have absolutely no doubt that our immediate responses to bikes that are shown to us are colour-influenced.

I hate to admit it, but yes it does. My new bike was purchased earlier than I intended because the 2012 model changed colors.

A family member once gave me a five year old green Pontiac Lemans. I hate green! The only colors that I like for any moving vehicle are black, silver, blue, and gold. Perhaps some variation between those colors. At any rate, I could never get use to that awful green color, so I sold the Lemans, and bought a brand new silver Camaro.
