I doubt anyone would look at my 1994 Trek 850 and ask how much it costed. Problem solved, I guess.

I ride faster! Away from them preferably.

Seriously though. Not sure I have ever been asked but I don't stop much either. Just at lights and I am usually the only person there, aside from cars of course.

The OP had an issue with the question, in those cases he just need not answer. I felt he maybe didn't realize he had the option to not answer. it seemed to me the questioner was being crass or rude not curious. There is nothing wrong with not responding to a rude question.

As far as my answering the OP's question goes, I didn't have an issue with the question so I gave a response. I do ignore a lot of the questions I read in BF, so you might say I have no compulsion about answering every question.

New its about 700 euros. I got it second hand a year later practically unused by the 1st owner for 450. If you consider all the things put on the bike, I guess it totals to about 550.

I never mention it though. 550 is not really that much anyway. People assume it is much more expensive.

"Oh, I got the bike on sale, it was an older model year and I've no idea what a new one goes for these days."

Completely true and totally unhelpful. I am extremely uncomfortable with this type of question from strangers.

You read all that into the OPs post.

Sounds like the OP has an issue with the question. Perhaps because asking someone how much something they own costs is crass or rude.

What did you take from the post? That he liked being asked how much his stuff costs?
