Dahon handle post recall of 10 years ago

Hi everyone, my MU P8 has been stored away for 10 years. Nobody here in the UK can tell me whether my model (circa 2008)and serial number checks on the recall list. I just want to know whether it's safe or not, rather than having it repaired on the recall scheme. I've see reference to someone called Thor who may be able to help.
Thanks in advance . Mike

Thor or ThorUSA has a full sheet on this old recall. Look on the web or email him. He can help.

Welcome to the folder sub forum!

? How were the headposts failing?

I have seen two postings with pictures of casting/forging failures , one above the hinge and one with the area of the "tongue" taking out the undercut area where it would be restrained.

Were these the object of the CPSC recall?

I am not sure exactly how they fail, but as I understand it, this was a CPSC recall.

I also have Dahon that I bought used and decided to see if it was affected by this recall after reading this post. It turns out that it was! Thank you for posting this!

Well 3speed, it doesn't look any different apart from the hinge lock, I tried to upload pictures but the forum won't let me, apparently until I've reached 10 posts. Sorry.

I would contact Dahon USA and explain the situation, and give them your serial numbers as not all are affected. They will advise you from thereon. Good luck. Mike.

Dahon was very helpful on a bike I bought used. a curve
Replacement was sent out by thor, on their behalf and it was an easy swap.
This raises the question as to how they actually failed , and what to watch for in hinge inspection.

No less important, as the fact the replaced stems are not returned or destruction affirmed, so they may end up on the aftermarket.
the replacement was stamped inside the hinge with 21 24,
the underside of the recalled stem had QV stamped on the concealed underside of the stem
not visible without the (easy) removal of the riser.
(I didn't pull the new one to check for underside stamping, but think it had an R there)
