I don't know why they run front-wheel only in many cases, but *I* just dig the way they look, and when I save up the cash I'll have a full set front and back.

Oh, I get it now. Most people run them because they think they look cool, including messengers, but they'll tell you it's so they can throw their chain-locks through it real quick. This claim is a little dubious, and I suspect that just miss their old Skyway Tuffs.

the reason I want one is the fact that they are supposedly indestructible. and I like the way they look.

they're tougher to damage and the large holes make it slightly easier to get a chain lock through. at least those are the practical rationalizations.

but some people just like the way the look, which is ok too. it don't matter to jesus.

edit: oh yeah, and they're supposedly more aerodynamic. duh.

because they're strong as **** and when you live in NYC, the potholes are massive and I've compacted many bearings and dished wheels here. Everyone I know that rides Aerospokes trash the s h i t out of them and they're still true.

HA, I knew the strength part, but I never thought about how quick it would be to throw a lock through one. That actually makes a lot of sense to me. Would have helped when I was late to class in college or when I really had to pee.

And hell, I think they look pretty kick ass on certain builds.

if you want a heavy wheel, wait till Team Wreck Stuff's patent pending BrickOSpoke finally hits the market. it's got a tungsten-wrapped hub and tungsten coating on the rim, for added density, plus, flamethrowers, bricks in the spokes, and weight.

till then, though, just get an aerospoke.

i think there is an issue with the rear wheel sliding or something like that. so that's why most only ride the front. or maybe they are broke and can only afford one. or maybe they are just coping what they see. who cares. they are heavy as ****.

You typically see people only using an aerospoke on the front of their bikes because the rear track aerospoke doesn't handle back-pedaling well. The hub is removable and the splined interface wears down if you apply back pressure frequently.

And also because the trend got started by people picking up cheap, second hand bladed wheels (HEDs, aerospokes etc) and the track rears are less common than road rears. So people put them on the front only.

I just... I just can't get behind the BrickOSpoke...

every dollar we invest into researching these brickospokes is another dollar we DON'T invest in our PharaohSpokes.

WHAT MONIES WILL WE HAVE LEFT TO RESEARCH PHARAOHDYNAMICS

now that's just absurd.

especially considering that there will be plenty of smoke resulting from burnin' suckas with the flamethrower.

rockets are still stuck in R&D.

GOLDENSKELETRONZ! sales from the BrickOSpoke(NJS) will fund R&D of the PHAROAHSPOKE. not to mention toe OREOSPOKE and the AEROSPOKE-SPECIFIC EDIBLE SPOKEYDOKE:

...trust me man. ray smuckles gives unfallible business guidance.

OK, so here is the ACTUAL reason why:

1. Actual track racers use aerospoked front wheel because aerodynamic drag is greater at the front wheel (a like 2% advantage can be had by going aero on the front) than it is at the rear wheel (the rear wheel is in the aerodynamic "shadow" of the seattube, you can only gain like 0.6% more efficiency back there). So, you gain the greatest aerodynamic benefit by using a aero front wheel. Using an aero rear wheel doesn't give that great a benefit, so some track racers have a more "standard" rear wheel so they don't have to run two "brick style" wheels.

2. Some messengers like to go wicked fast, and since they are on track bikes too, why not also run the same setup?

3. Hipsters see what the messengers are doing, even though they don't know why they are doing it, so they do it. They later try and figure out why they did it, and come up with crazy ideas like "Yo, Dudz, I run an aerospoke 'cause I can lock it up real quick n' shinz.."

4. Barneys who are interested in becoming hipsters get caught up in the hype and bid up the Ebay aerospokes, just because they don't want to miss out on the next BIG THING!

I love all my children, even if they run risers and aerospoke front wheels just for looks.
