Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hey @LesterOfPuppets, I’m in town for this conference and tomorrow evening mr h arrives with my bikes. Sat midday we leave for New Mexico.

Im thinking of riding around dawn for an hour on Sat morning, I need to be to my conference at 8am, so back to the hotel around 7am.

Im in downtown Phoenix so it looks like South Mountain Park is closest.

Questions:
1. Ok for me to ride there solo around dawn? Are there sketch people or is it pretty safe?
2. Wanna ride? Disclaimer: im thinking 5am.

My career at the time was cooking. I was doing work study to be a chef. Things happened.

I signed up for the French Creek Iron Tour Century which is on Sunday.

If anyone cares, here is the course. Looks like it will be good weather.

That "Keep Your Discs Away From Me" thread is just begging for a sophomoric parody thread title.

Of course, I will take the high road and not post it. So mature.

First time? The last time I did it there was a massive thunderstorm. We dodged it thanks to where we were on the course, but the start/finish got slammed. All the water rushed down through the shelter were food is served, turning much of the ground into mud. The food at the end was salad and hot dogs.

I used to work with the woman who helped create the event.

Also, today is the boy's last day of school for the summer. Normally, I'd be really pumped for this, but recently, the boy and girl have been a frustrating handful of endless bickering when together, so I gotta get this figgered out before strangle one of both of them.

Looks like a very nice ride for them with the legs for it. Be sure to eat enough now, hear?

I've lately been cruising the mechanics forum. And I've noticed an interesting thing. Either the modern bike crowd suffers no mechanical problems with their bikes or they are not inclined to attempt the repairs themselves. That is all.
And on that same note, I realized that in 3 short years, I'll be riding a fifty year old bike. Sobering, in a manner of speaking.
I continue to suffer with this cold. It might cause the cancellation of my trip to visit the grandchild tomorrow morning.
