I think it depends on the model and what "a few hundred" equates to. I got a 2016 pre-loved Sirrus and saved over 50% of the original retail price. I got it on the open market at a local auction site and was competing with at least one other bidder so I don't think I necessarily got an exceptional deal.

On the other hand, for $225 it's probably not going to be a bad first bike if it's been treated well. The components may be a little dated but a few miles here and there probably won't expose any deficiencies. I'd put my money on you being able to flick it for $200 in 12 months if you want to upgrade.

My research indicates that the Sirrus has been well respected since it was introduced so if it fits, feels comfortable and rides well I think you'll be fine.

The longer the wheel base the smoother it rides - like a long wheelbase car.

Before I opted for my old 2008 Sirrus frame as a restore project I fiddled around trying to use a short wheel base road frame for a ' go anywhere ' type of bike
i.e Flat bars, Schwalbe CX Comp tyres and comfy seat etc and as previously stated had difficulty with tyre size choices and most importantly the ride was twitchy - steering adjustments all the time.
I didn't like it at all.

Now with the slightly longer wheelbase I can get any size tyre in it and the ride is wonderful by comparison.

Hi guys, I need some advice. Looking at a Sirius comp sport $1350. And a sirrus X1 $2000. Is the X1 component really worth $700 more than the comp sport? I want something that is easy to ride.

The first thing to remember the X1 is near top of the range but there's equivalent X2 for the same price (Sirrus Expert Carbon) both are US$2000.

All three of these bikes will be easy to ride, it just depends where and how you like to ride. I have a Sirrus Expert Carbon and absolutely love it. I haven't ridden for 5 or more years and now use it for commuting and fitness on roads and sealed paths. I don't do any off-roading or adventure riding.

The Sport has the same carbon frame and fork, is 9 speed and uses Alivio level components. The Expert (and X1) are 11 speed and use 105 level components.

So decide X1 or X2, 9-Speed or 11-Speed then your price point? All of these bikes will feel pretty much the same.

I have a Sirrus Expert Carbon...The comp is a way to grab someone who wants Carbon with downgraded components is all. I'd ride them all and see if you feel any differences that you can't live with. Then color choice always plays a role for people too.

I love this bike with a passion, I hadn't been riding as consistently as I am now. I got it fitted and swapped out somethings on it to make it my own. But overall the bike rides like an absolute dream you will probably be very happy with feel of carbon, only you (and your budget) can decide on how you want it spec'd.

Nice bike..I really went into the store to take home the Pro, they had one in my size on the floor, they did not have any Experts. But the color on the Pro (although black) was not what i thought it was going to be. The metal flake paint job looked like a 1970s MG, super big, sparkly metal flakes and you couldn't even see the Specialized labeling. It's too bad because I liked they way that bike was spec'd compared to mine. For the extra $500 you get a heck of alot more than the Expert. But color is harder to change than components in my opinion.

The Sport is 9 spd with Alivio. The Comp is 10 spd /Tiagra.

But the sport is $700 cheaper than the X1. I know nothing about hard ware. My trex verve 2 came with Altus

If I wanted to upgrade the hardware from sport to X1 down the road. Would it cost $700?

I wish I could test both of these but my LBS don't have any of these

I'm not an expert either but I don't think a new cassette, rear derailleur, rear shifter and crankset would cost US$700 for reasonable components, no.

You could keep the same brakes, wheels, saddle, seat post etc, etc.

Are wheels included in that? if not I think that would be a big chunk of 700. plus the seatpost, brakes, shifter. if you just want to change the drivetrain to a 1X11 you would need a cassette, chain, maybe the freehub, you could keep the cranks and change the chainring with spacers. I would guess drivetrain conversion to 1X11 could be a shop for 400-500 USD, I just had this done on my MTN bike. However you could save a little money and do it yourself for 300-400 usd. if you know what you are doing and have the correct tools. I went with Shimano XT deraileur, shifter cassett, (11spd) shimano chain and race face front chainring, I will have to check and see if the free hub was changed.

many do it yourselfers have trouble getting the sprockets centered and aligned. ex. chain drops down on the rear sprocket when backpedaling. My shop did a perfect job on my mountain bike. it was worth paying them to do it.

btw you may want to take the opportuniy to get ispec shifters if your brakes support it.


Personally I looked at changing all the parts of a sport carbon to make an X1 and honestly it did not make sense, now I was looking at changing everything involved. I am just going to wait a month or two until I can afford the X1 since it is pretty much the way I would spec it. only thing I will change is the shifter so I only have 1 clamp on the bar.

One is Carbon one is AL...I would suggest riding both to see what you think. Personally I was shocked at the difference between a Carbon and AL bike in terms of feel. I could never go back to an aluminum frame after owning this bike.

I have the carbon expert, and I love it....to answer your question I think it's worth it because you can't really ever change the frame to carbon, but you can always change the components out slowly if you don't like something or once it wears out.

I have already upgraded my entire cockpit to carbon bars, stem, bar endz..Overall the bike in carbon is magnificent compared to ANYTHING I own (or have owned) in aluminum.

Not to mention the Nordic Red color is bad ass.

Youll probably be happy with either, it's an awesome ride. But the carbon does something special when it's spread through the entire frame. But listen to your wallet before you listen to me, thats all that matters. But if you can wait and save a few more sheckels I think the Carbon Sport it worth it.

The 2106 Elite is a bit of an "in-between" bike really, when you take a close look at the specs I'm not sure it passes muster. They've dropped it from the line in 2017 and replaced it with the "Comp".

I'd skip it, I think the 2017 Sport is probably better.

Ask them what you can get a 2016 "Expert Carbon" for, that's a proper step up.

Turns out they would have to ship it, and that would cost me about $100, so it's the same price for th 2017 sport carbon.
They don't have an expert for 16.

hi, does anyone have a clue as to when the 2018 line of sirrus comes out? looking at the 2017 expert carbon x1 but thinking it'll go on sale once the 2018 line is released.


another question, how much better would everyone say a carbon bike is compared to aluminum? I test rode a carbon sirrus at my lbs and couldn't believe how much I liked the bike, but couldn't tell if it was some kind of new bike placebo effect
