It's something my wife and I have enjoyed together since meeting in College back in 1970. There are certain trails we enjoy all around the country and try to travel to see the sites, ride the trails, met the people and most of all EAT THE FOOD!

Thanks to me becoming fully engaged in cycling to fix my weight problem (dropped 50 lbs in the first 18 months), and then continuing to be engaged enough to achieve an FTP60 of 3.3 w/kg, and a max. of 1080 watts (for a couple seconds), I'm now fully engaged in fixing my patellar tendonitis, hardly riding at all, and am getting fat again. Full circle.

I can get away from people because I’m the only serious cyclist for miles plus the endorphins that give that natural pain killing buzz. Also I can access miles of gravel roads from my garage.

What Barrettscv said except no electronics, not even a phone, and I don't care for working on bikes. I'm a car mechanic and I've worked on enough crap. I wish my bikes would stay clean and maintain themselves.

What Barrett said. There are inside dogs and outside dogs and I'm an outside dog. For example, I dislike indoor tennis and don't do it, but skiing, hiking or most anything outside I'm drawn to. There is a meditative aspect to spinning the pedals I also like as well as puttering with the bike. I enjoy the club rides though I mostly ride by myself.

Too many bikes that need to be ridden, too many tires, cables, chains and bar tape that need to be worn out. I can't keep buying this stuff if I don't ever use it. So I ride occasionally in order to justify the expense.

It's the fastest way I know of, to get a rush of "everything's gonna be all right" hormones. Somehow, post-ride, pretty much any bad situation suddenly seems fixable.

It's mostly commuting that keeps me engaged through the winter months, and when it warms up I want to knock the rust off. And then the long rides are "my time", breaking out of routine and spending 2 or 3 hours just doing something that I enjoy.

Cycling for me burns off the "edge" of a long day. Even a small amount ( compared to years ago) works wonders for me. I also like to use a bike to run errands if possible. Living near a beach in socal makes it easier and sometimes faster to go someplace and not have to hunt down a parking spot which can be nearly impossible to find at certain times. Cycling also allows me to ride paths that have next to nobody on compared to streets. Birding and wildlife interests make cycling the best mode of transportation for that. It also keeps down the money needed to buy fuel for the vehicle.

For me it is the most effective form of transport for many things like going to work and buying groceries.
As I am pretty much only an urban rider, I never have an issue with parking anywhere, which had become quite problematic for me with my car.
Also I have saved a small fortune by being "Car Free" for the last two or so years.
When it comes to exercise, the exercise is a bonus only, as I prefer other activities to cycling to get an exercise fix.
