Here's my latest.. I got beat to a few bikes during a local town-wide tag sale yesterday, but I didn't totally strike out. I was excited to see this Univega in my size sitting on a porch. Picked it up for $45. It's a Gran Turismo, not sure about the year, but a one-owner bike that has certainly seen some miles and I'm looking forward to doing the same. I'll post pictures in the unofficial Univega thread when I'm done cleaning it up.

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
My hub find from the other day got a little sweeter as the maker of those hubs stopped by today for his weekly visit and told me the rear hub with the 126mm spacing was one of his early touring triples... it has an extra central bearing to support heavier loads.
He was really pleased I got these 3 hubs for $20.00 and seemed more pleased that I was stoked about using them on my touring bike.
Also saw a pair of 48 spoke hubs he is working on for an order and the rear tandem (touring hub) will ride on 4 cartridge bearings due to it's extra wide spacing and because of the load requirements.
After that... we shook hands on a distributorship deal so I will be carrying these hubs in my shop and building wheels around them and servicing them as needed which is almost never.

WOW this is very nice and Suntour Cyclone too! a nice pair of tubulars would be great on the bike. there are always good deals to be had on freewheel style tubular wheels.

Correct on the year. It was purchased from the original owner who still rides (lugged steel Tommasini with Ultegra and a steel TIGed Sirrius) and he had the original catalog and paper work from when he bought it. It was purchased in Sept. of 74'.
I generally have a hatred of French bikes, but the first of the 2 PX-10s I purchased is my size so I guess right now I own a French bike of my own. I need to change out a few things before I really ride it (longer stem and seatpost). This last one probably will be going to a fellow forum member since I guess it is one of his holy grail bikes?

A couple of months ago I picked up a Daahon Curve D3 while on a biz trip and was able to bring it home in a bigger suitcase I had. Well this biz trip I scoped out the Philly CL and found a 2007 Vitesse D7 with a lode of extras. However I didn't bring a larger suitcase with me. Now I have to hit the thrift shops to find a big suitcase to pack it as checked luggage with no fee.
Just got off of the SEPTA train in Philly with my new 2007 Dahon Vitesse D7. It was even a better deal than I thought. The bike looks pristine like it came straight from the LBS. For $250 I got:

Big Canadian Made Sekine SHC
My girlfriend's parents were cleaning out their storage bin and asked me if I'd like a "10 speed" they had, knowing my bicycle problem, and of course I couldn't say no. Here are a couple of pictures. Near as I can tell, this is a late 70's Canadian made Sekine. It looks like the components are fairly decent. The frame is pretty big, but i haven't measured yet. The rear derailer cable snapped the first time i tried to change gears.. I still have the casing, but it's partially damaged as you can see in the pics.
What do you nerds think?

Did I see that right? It looks like the rear derailler is a "Shimano 500". Thats the first I've ever seen or heard of a 500 group.

I've been there a couple of times for about a month, the whole state looks gorgeous. I even saw the Timberline lodge, and went down the skibowl on a sled. Wasn't the snow season, but still a blast. Portland is my second favorite city behind New Orleans.,,,,BD

I was going to leave the Mt Hood here in Houston for a month while I got settled in Lake Charles.... I think I am going to make room, and
bring those Yokota gumwalls along for the ride. The more I think of that bike, the more I want to work on it. Maybe red cables, if the LC
LBS realizes there are more colors than black. I still miss the chrome Voyageur, with the red/chrome look.,,,,BD

I don't see much 500 stuff and think it evolved into the Exage family of parts which were also pretty robust.
It looks to be a 24-25 inch frame.. met a tallish fellow today who would love a bike this size.

Given the condition, I have a strong feeling that everything is original on this bike...
But when I measure the chainline, the rear is about 42mm but the front chainline is way off being around 50mm.
How is this possible?

I managed to snag a rare PHX CL 'bargain' today...a GT Slipstream hybrid for $25. It was in good condition, one owner, and very low mileage. Sat in a garage for the last 7 yrs. Needs tubes, an overhaul, and some buffing. Looks exactly like the one in the link:

I missed our yearly police bike auction this weekend as they held it almost a month early and we had already made plans to be out of town at another town wide yard sale
I picked up a few bikes but nothing great, last year I filled my truck and went back with my brothers truck in the late afternoon and filled that but this year was totally different.
The best bike I got was a well used Bianchi Europa and I think I over paid for the condition it is in at $50. I got a very rusty Schwinn Varsity for $5 from a family friend that I haven't seen in 10yrs when we ran into him there. I had a funky 3spd given to me a Mark Workman designer series and for $5 a Haro bmx bike. I will NOT miss next years bike auction.

finn - Sekines tend to be very well made bicycles... the 500 group puts the bike as a mid to later 70's model and puts the bike in as something better than an entry level bike.

I actually swapped out the bars for the original drops. You're right those brake levers did not work well with those handlebars.
The bike, with the drop bars was picked up this morning by a guy who really seems to love it. I love it when someone enjoys my handiwork and a discarded bike starts being enjoyed again..
