Using just DOT fluids instead of DOT compatible grease

I've seen a quite of internet postings that suggest I may use just DOT fluids instead of DOT compatible grease if I will or I just don't use anything when I change hoses in SRAM hydraulic brake system. (I'm dealing with road bike, Apex, by the way)

so does that confirm that I can use the exact same DOT 5.1 brake fluid which I bleed after completion of assembly just as those DOT compatible grease if I want?

Thanks in advance.

Well, nobody has answered yet, I’ll take a stab at it. SRAM is using DOT 5.1 fluid, or super 4.0 fluid. This is completely different from DOT 5.0 fluid, never mix 5.0. I can’t see how you can hurt anything by using 5.1 fluid in the assembly of your brakes. It just won’t stay in place like a grease. Just keep everything clean, apply a drop or two of fluid and assemble. When I’ve rebuilt calipers and cylinders for cars, they are assembled with clean brake fluid of the same type as the whole system.

Are you talking about this with regard to pushing barbs / using olives?

Sure DOT compatible grease isn't just silcone grease used to lube the pins that AUTOMOTIVE calipers slide on?

Well, I didn't use any grease at all when I put my setup together, and it's fine some 10,000 miles later.

For fluid-- Motul 5.1 all the way.

I dont / never have used grease on them and its fine. I remember reading an mtb thread where pretty much no one did and that was the consensus, so I went with that. Been fine on all the hydro stuff I have done for the last 6 years.
