Port Jervis Erie 80 Ride

Did anyone do the ride this weekend? I did the "Fun Ride" 12 miles. There was a 25 mile and a 50 mile race. I gotta tell ya, it was 3 miles uphill from the center of town to the start of the trails. I was shot! Had nothing left for the trails. I just got back into riding a few months ago, but this was really discouraging for me. I was pushing the bike uphill when another guy came by pushing and we hung together for the rest of the day. That made it bearable. the trails were fairly new and real rocky. I thought I was in decent shape but to see these guys/gals riding the 25 mile course was incredible. My hat goes off to them. They must be in super shape. I guess more time in the saddle will help, but it seems a long way off.

Hey John, we all start at the beginning, so your strength and endurance will only improve. I put in 10 miles there last week. We rode about 10 miles in 2 hours. Lot's of hills but none real steep, along with lots of rocks just waiting to pinch a flat!

I think you deserve a lot of credit for taking that challenge on. Be proud of your accomplishment and know that next time, you will do better.
Are there any equipment, training or riding-technique changes that you would implement if you decide to do this ride (or something like it) again?

1989, I'm working with a few friends now, my main concern is conditioning. The technical part will come with experience.
