1975 Raleigh Carlton Track Bike Value
I am thinking about buying a 1975 Raleigh Professional Track bike. I am including the only picture I have of it. The Campy crankset is original but I am not sure if anything else is. It supposedly is in good condition with no dings. Anyone have a guess of the value?

I would be investigating under that black tape on the top tube before I came up with a figure. Sometimes its nothing, other times, there is damage underneath it. Downtube tape is also worth a quick check. No damage = good value there!

It was fairly common to wrap that region of the top tube to prevent damage from the handlebars, so it may be nothing, though as suggested, it warrants investigation. FMV ~$500-$600 US, assuming average cosmetic damage and good mechanical condition.

Looks as if it has potential. I wouldn’t be overly concerned about the tape on the top tube, granted I’d want to remove prior to buying.
T-Mar’s number is likely what I’d want if it was mine. If I were buying, I’d want to be in the $300-400 range given it’s going to need a lot to make it a bit more appropriate. Not to mention paint will likely need to be brought back a tad and appears to missing decals.
Looks a a bit small for you, no? Ha. 10 years ago I would have been beating down doors to get this as a project.

Looks like a nice bike can't tell from the pics if it has the original Campy hubs and track seatpost I would say say $550-600 and probably a $100 less if there changed out. If you go to check it out I would ask the owner if the had the original pedals and any other original bits which would bumb the price up a bit.

It's a good frameset to start with but that's what you are really buying. The entire equipment gruppo is changed out so you could end up looking for a complete Campy track gruppo. Say $400 just for the frameset and $500 for the frame and the off brand gruppo.

I took a look at the bike today. The crankset was original, the seatpost was Thomson, the stem was Cinelli, the pedals were Shimano and it had Surly hubs (flip/flop rear). The seller didn't have any of the original components since they had gotten it from a friend a long time ago. I pealed back the tape on the top tube and there was a small ding on the top. The woman who owned it was kind of hesitant to sell the bike. She was leaving as I arrived and I was dealing with her husband when I checked out the bike. I was going to offer $225 before I discovered the ding. It was listed for $265. After I saw the ding I told him that I would give him $125. He said he would talk to his wife but she would probably want to keep it for that price. Overall it was in pretty good shape barring the ding.

Good luck, but I doubt she'll go for it at the price you offered. The ding won't bother many folks, it certainly isn't a structural issue and if you put on one of those rubber and aluminum top tube protectors the track folks use, it goes away. Let us know how it goes.

incazzare.
I love that the Thompson seatpost is installed backwards.
Anyway, even with a ding, the frame alone is probably worth the asking price. The crank is not cheap either.

In my book, the asking was market value.

I noticed the seatpost too! I guess that extra 15mm made all the difference....
But seriously, there is a lot of value there and even the wheels and hubs are decent, so I would pull the trigger.
