Since it's badged Nishiki but still has an American Eagle label, it should be circa 1972-1973. I see by the crest, that it's a Kawamura manufactured product, so I'd expect an early KS format serial number, possibly KS1xxxxx. I'm surprised to see one in Canada from this period but see that it has a San Bernadino shop decal and somehow made it's way up from California (draft dodger's girlfriend?).
Regardless, this is the basic, bottom of the line, adult model from the era. It would probably only have been about $100 pre-pandemic. You're close enough to the GTA to feel the impact. Timing is good for students returning to school who are leery of public transportation. That's assuming schools are returning to in-class sessions in your region. Maybe $200? It's kind of hard to price things these days.

The used bike market here has taken off because everyone who can is avoiding the Cov-idiots on the transit system.
The bike shop on 1568 East Highland Ave in San Bernardino now just sells donuts.
Sic transit gloria mundi, to coin a phrase...

That's an absolutely gorgeous vintage bike. If it was an English or Italian brand then, it would be worth a whole lot. But, since it's Japanese not so much. The good news is that it should sell pretty fast for around $200. Be good. Have fun.
