[SOLD] Price Drop! FS: '77 Peter Mooney Frameset 63.5x57.5: $400 Shipped

I listed this a few years back, decided to hold onto it, but now it's time to move it on.
This is a very pretty and early '77 Peter Mooney road frameset, 63.5cm c-c seat tube x 57.5cm c-c head tube. I'll list the bad points first, 'cause I suck at marketing. Top tube runs a little short for its size and tire clearance is 25-26mm in the rear. Positive spin: perfect for vintage French-fit fans who love the ride of supple 25mm tires, esp tubs!
Frame dims are:
ST 71.5-deg, HT 73.0-deg
ST 63.5cm c-c
TT: 57.5cm c-c
Chainstay: 41.5cm, wheelbase 100.0cm
Standover 87.0cm/34.3"
Rear spacing 120mm
Seatpost: 26.8mm
The serial number as far as I can determine is 044 . Peter's confirmed he built the frame, but said his build sheets showed 044 as a different frame, built in '77. I didn't want to take up any more of his time chasing this down, since the build looks late-'70s to me. So it is a genuine Mooney, but I can't confirm the build date or details.
The frame is very clean, with a CycleArt paint job, likely a respray? At least I doubt the finish is original, with proper/thin paint but with decals under clear coat, except for the Reynolds 531 sticker, free to slowly disintegrate. There are some interesting touches, like the very lovely double-scalloped top-o-seat lug treatment, fastback stay treatment, brake casing guides under the top tube, and an extra derailleur casing guide/loop on the chainstay. Single bottle cage mounts, fder mount (unusual for '77, maybe added when resprayed?), nutted brakes, vertical Campy rear drops, no eyelets f/r. The paint looks very fresh, hardly any signs of use, just a few tiny chips and a sliver of paint surrounding the binder bolt gone from the right seat lug ear.

But because I ruin everything, it should be mentioned that George Takei's last name, in Japanese, is pronounced with an English hard "a" sound, like ta-kay. Not an "i" sound like ta-kye. So what George should be saying, to rhyme properly, is: "Oh, hey! It's George Takei!"
Now please go back to ogling my Mooney.....

I've spent the last week riding with my saddle 15mm too high in an effort to stretch my legs enough to (barely) allow me to ride this frame size. Alas to no avail!

I would love to try it out, but right now I would love to just be able to go for any ride without back pain.

The perfect size for me with my long legs and short torso and your are right next door. Wish it took larger tires and I had something we could trade.

It could be a perfect candidate for 650b conversion. Build a nice light wheel set and possibly get up to 38mm tires. It’s been done to these late 80’s bikes with tight tire clearance.
