Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Kilgore Trout was a better writer than Vonnegut. And this came to me just yesterday. When was the last time I had Kilgore Trout in my head?! Kismet

My bike dropped its nds crank arm on this morning's ride. A first for me. The dust cap is intact and the arm was hanging on the threads. Which series of observations makes me wonder if I forgot to install the nut. But it's been many moons since I last touched that crankset.
Anyway, optimist that I am, I removed my helmet, shades and skullcap, and started walking back the way I'd come. I was only 6 km from the nearest village. Ultimately the local police picked me up and took me to a shop. I then rode home. The village police in these parts drive pick-ups.

Didn’t want to do one-legged drill the whole way?

At the security desk in my building there is a plastic bin labeled "ELEVATOR BUTTON TOOLS." it's filled with unsharpened pencils.

Maybe it was Trump first? Yep.

The race was met by anti-Trump protests in the first-stage finishing town of New Paltz, New York, where demonstrators held placards reading "Fight Trumpism", "Die Yuppie $***", "The Art of the Deal = The Rich Get Richer" and "Trump = Lord of the Flies"

After two editions, Trump withdrew his sponsorship of the race due to his business's financial problems.[1][16] According to Packer, reflecting on the event in 2016, he and Trump "parted as good business friends", although he also explained that Trump's personality and celebrity, as well as the scandals surrounding Trump's marriage and business affairs, distracted from the event and annoyed European riders in the race

DuPont's withdrawal also came months after John DuPont, heir to the Du Pont family fortune, had been arrested for the murder of Olympic wrestler Dave Schultz
I still have a t-shirt from the 1992 edition.
