Decent, inexpensive, 26" mtb trail tire?
I see a lot of threads asking about tires for commuters or city riding, or tires that can handle some trail and some pavement, but I was wondering if anybody could recommend a few brands that are inexpensive but reasonably durable trail tires for my 90s GT. I'm not too concerned about weight. They would be for strictly off-road use here in FL.
On the cheap-light-strong graph, I'm aiming squarely in the cheap-strong region.
Thanks for any help!

26” tires are getting tougher to find, so cheap is probably not like it was a few years ago.
My advice is to go to eBay and look for lowest price and then look at reviews. I’ve recently been trying to pick up a few 26” mtb tires so I’ll have some backups. I’m looking at folding tires, and the pickin’s are getting slim.

Edit added: If you are just looking for durable and don’t care about weight, or speed, WTB Velociraptors do last a long time and the wire bead is not too expensive these days. They used to be dirt cheap.
Panaracer Fire XC Pro is another decent tire.
There was a time when I ran WTB front and Panaracer rear.

Man they really aren't cheap. The Outpost has bontrager connection trails on it now. I don't even know if those are fancy, but I was hoping to find a set for under 50.

Bike Nashbar and Performance's "in house" brand is Forte-don't know who makes them, or about availability, but you could call them to see when they might be in stock, if you see something you might like. I haven't used them, but for the price, might be worth a try. Example: https://www.nashbar.com/forte-pisgah...41472?v=934462

I would definitely check out the Delium. I have one on a mtb that I purchased about 4 years ago off the bay. It's a foldable, heavy tire with a very aggressive tread design that is holding up well. I bought it for the price ($15.US) at the time and the tread pattern. It takes a lot to spin out when climbing even loose terrain. Good luck

"Forte" is back? That's kind of nice to hear, even if it's got no relationship besides a label with pre-bankrupt Performance/Nashbar
26 is not gone like the dodo. 26er mountain bikes were made for three decades in a lot of styles and the takeover on longer travel full suspension bikes wasn't complete until quite recently. So you can still find a lot of good tires.

They will never be totally gone in our lifetimes... or at least not the reasonable lifetime of a bike. You can still buy 27" bike tires from mainstream tire companies, and no one has sold a bike with those in thirty years (touring bikes and tandems being the last to give them up)

Well, I stopped by a friend's shop last night and he had a pair of maxxis high roller ii's laying around. He gave me the pair for 30 bucks. Low confidence they'll fit on my Outpost (they're 2.4s) but you never know.

I think he is also selling the Ibex model.
Only concern is durability, so your cheap and strong may not apply.

Dude, thanks. Here's hoping the less expensive, narrower ones come back in stock soon.

There is/was a guy selling Onza tires on eBay in the low $20’s. I picked up a Lynx for my wife’s bike since they are on the lighter side (580gr) and she’ll only ride easy flat trails. I tested one out and I’m not sure how durable or how hard they can be pushed, but it is pretty fast and is surprisingly good for a 2.1 in sand over hard. I picked up a few more.
