I just got a Colnago Super frame/fork (56) and it comes in at 5.75ish lbs. (postal scale) That's frame and fork! I was going to try and do everything '77 minus, but you know what? It's MY bike so I am going to go into my late 70's early 80's stash and go SR all over the place. I want to exploit just how "light" this bike is. You are on the right track, at the end of the day, unless you actually care, who gives a darn if your RD is from '82 etc. I just keep things in the "spirit of the law" if you will.

Thank you.
i ride what I own. Rain or shine, pavement or moon dust.
but, I at least want to keep it before or after 1978. Chain line, and all the changes with that.

Personally, I'd say anything made before the frame is OK, but the closer the better. It just has to have been available when the bike was new. Here you would be on shaky ground if the bike is from 1973. Of course, I haven't bothered to replace the Victory shifters or the Rolls saddle that were on my De Rosa when I bought it. I did get pre-CPSC brakes for it though. I had to buy a whole second bike to get them. You'll probably have to do the same to get the correct brake pad holders for yours.

Any reasonable, sympathetic, mostly correct, very correct, absolutely correct change is fair game, attrition, upgrades, simple substitutions are all on the table, many, many, many reasons, causes, whims and fancies are all on the table.
This far down the line it is foolish to restrict the time that has passed, this frame obviously spent much of its life sitting and waiting,
practically NOS which could be Now On with the Show, build it with brand new Campy 12 speed and see what happens, might be the finest bike in the world.

Hell, spread the rear end to 130mm and throw Campy 10sp on it for all I care. Triple, even.
It's probably what I would do (and have done on more than one top-drawer C&V frame), but then I am a godless heretic fit only for the pits of perdition. And that's what the people who like me say about me.
But seriously, go 100% gonzo period-correct OCD down to the last screw in the cable clips or go completely non-period correct. Or a mix of both. Or make it the only De Rosa built up exclusively with French parts. (Okay, don't go all French; the idea of a De Rosa with TA cranks, Mafac brakes, Lyotard pedals and Simplex or Huret derailleurs boggles the mind.) Make it yours in a way that puts a smile on your face and makes you want to ride it. As for what the rest of us think, that is at best a secondary consideration. Unless you plan on trying to win a concours d'elegance with it, of course,
And remember that., as always, my opinion is worth exactly what you are paying for it.

Someone on this forum told me I should sell my De Rosa if I was even considering such a thing. I've got a triple on it now, but I didn't spread the rear end. De Rosa touring bikes are quite rare, you know?

A couple weekends ago, I was part of a group ride (7 of us) along the 17 Mile Drive with a lunch stop at the Pebble Beach Market. When we rode down to the fence by the lawn area, I could swear I saw mothers were covering their children's eyes and grandmothers getting the vapors. I think the Pebble Beach concours organizers would have a collective apoplexy at the very thought of us mangy cycling hooligans mingling with their Auburns and Stutz Bearcats.

I like the most common original look when there is a distinct demarcation when the cylindrical post meets the clamping portion. Granted, sometimes Campy would polish both, the "as cast" segment isolated from the lathe turned segment, but I think the most beautiful is the dull vs shiny.
What makes me laugh, is that this seatpost was on my dining room table as I read your post.

The Pits of Perdition is actually a pretty nice place.
Just ask anyone who ‘s been there.

Edit: this can also be the worst part, YMMV
Now you’ve really done it— sparked an idea for a build.

Springsteen's original version was "cut loose like a deuce", reference to 1932 Ford Deuce coupe.
