I am going to start riding again !
Picking up my Trek FX2 Disk today. I am going to started riding again today after about an eight year hiatus. For some reason about eight years ago I decided to sell my bike and stop riding as I thought I was getting to old and it might be safer that way. Not sure why I decided that, but I rented a bike recently to see how I would feel riding again. I felt like a kid all over again, so the obsession is born again. I am 69 will be 70 in November and live on the Central Coast of California where conditions are near perfect for a bike ride.

sounds like a great idea! I'm about to turn 64 and my riding has become very sporadic. I'm looking for the motivation to jump back in.

I started riding 3 years ago after a 20 + year hiatus. That '84 Pug and I go back 35 years together. I'd forgotten how good it felt to ride and at 64 yo I hope to have a bunch of riding years left in me.

Amen to that! You are less than a year older than I am, and I do not consider myself too old for cycling. There are lots of older folks out there who ride farther and/or faster than I can.

I went through this almost exactly a year ago. I'd knocked of riding maybe 2010 or '11 and just thought I'd like to ride again. A year later, I think the most I've missed is one week. I turned 65 midway through that year, FWIW.

I'm 61 and returned to riding after 20+ years. I restarted slowly riding a rail trail on a hybred. Then I got the idea to enter a charity 65 mile in July so I had to do a bit of training. Took my mid 80s classic Asian steel bike apart and did a few upgrades.
The 65 mile ride was on a course with few hills so it went ok. I like in a hilly area and was trying unsuccessfully to ride an 8 mile loop circuit in my neighborhood that has several 12-15% grades. I'm so excited because last night (8/27/19) I made the loop without stopping.
I found out after the charity ride that I have Lyme disease. Currently treating that almost there. I think that having undetected Lyme was a major reason I couldn't make much progress on the steep hills. I'm now determined to ride a number of half and metric centuries next year and repeat the charity ride I did this year. My goal is to take at least an hour off my time.
I picked up a Craigs List used bike, it's a 2006 Cannondale Synapse 4. Not the bike of my dreams but still quite an upgrade for me and for not that much money.
Hope you stick with it my friend, we like bikes!

Good for you. I stopped riding for decades but started again about 8 years ago. There are not many activities that rival cycling for physical, mental, and social well being.

I look in the mirror and see a fat gut. That is my motivation. Don't want to be the guy the paramedics have to bring in extra help to hoist into the ambulance.

but I’m finally ahead and fixing to get back on my bikes. Yup, sometimes life dictates bike riding and I understand that thoroughly. But heck ya back riding and having a blast and that is a good thing! So more power to you!

I'm 67 and haven't ridden much in the past year. My bike is just too aggressive (low handlebars, etc) for my neck, butt numbness, etc. But I sure am missing it. Saw a guy leaving REI yesterday, had just bought his 10 year old son a bike. He was excited, I was excited. A bike is freedom for a kid. And for us older kids, too.
