Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Brutal. I'm sorry to hear that.

It goes without saying that under normal circumstances I'd never pick up a hitchhiker (I've seen enough horror movies to just ruin it for me). But when I saw what appeared to be a situation that I knew I could assist with, it made sense. Especially because, like yourself, I've been in a situation (my car) where I had to wait hours for assistance.

I stopped at a cut in for a farm gate to answer nature's call during a 100K this summer and as I wheeled back to the road a fellow stopped and asked if I needed help, a ride, or bottled water. Random act of kindness, I think, as I saw no signs of bike gear on his vehicle. I thanked him and sent him in his way. Really nice of him.

I’ve forgotten things but have never needed a ride home due to my forgetfulness. What’s my prize?

I got picked up by a stranger while riding across the country, but that’s another story.

Well done, @softreset. I've had similar experiences, helping and being helped. I've made some lasting friendships with other cyclists that way.
