1985 Montello. I bought this two years ago off a guy who had kept it on the wall above his sofa since roughly 1995. He never rode it, but got it from an ex-racer who owed him money, and hung it on the wall as art. I agree, it's art, but it's also one of the nicest-riding bikes I've ever owned.

Just posted this new acquisition in the 'Pinarello Cadore Build' thread, but I like it enough to post it again. All I can say is: When the bike fits like a glove, handles like a dream and tracks perfectly straight - ain't life sweet?

Time for an update on my Pinarello. I bought it last April, see my post from that time. I tossed all parts, gave the frame a good clean and rebuilt/upgraded with Shimano Ultegra 6600 group. Together with other parts (see parts list below), this is the result.

my $30 Pinarello
My first road bike purchase at a local estate sale and I almost walked away from this $30 Pina. I'm a noob at cycling and decided to buy this unknown to me bike just for the Ideale saddle. Glad I brought this home that day.
Picture is in as found condition, dusty and with dry rot gum wall tires. I even came close to selling this frame set but was advised by some members here not to. I may never find another Columbus SL tubing Pinarello in Glass Black paint.
This came with a mixture of parts: Cinelli stem with Italmanubri Mod. Europa Super Racing bars. Universal levers w/Super77 brakes, Campagnolo NR seat post and front derailer. Ideal 92 leather saddle, Ofmega BB crank 52/42, Ofmega composite levers, Ofmega composite rear derailer. Ofmega CX pedals. Specialized head set, Specialized F/R 36h hubs with 13-21 rear cogs, wheelsmith spokes on Mavic MA40 clincher rims. I have narrowed my search on this frame to an 85' Pinarello Treviso. Its 58cm C to C and in my size.

For $30? Wow...what a great pick up! Very nice Pinarello...lots of decals available, just clean it up and replace those decals (and, of course, the consumables)...and what a great Pinot you will have!

I am building up my Pinarello with full Campagnolo SR group and ran into this writing on the fork near the serial number. I have seen a few other forks with this same color writing. Does anyone know what this means? "Nero" could be the word "Black" in Italian. My frame/fork set is Glass Black in color.

I believe this is an 85' Treviso frame set from the painted fork and single chromed chain stay. I have not been able to find information on this BB serial number DD97. I did find a copy of a brochure that had this same frame available in Black Glass color labeled as a Mod. Treviso.
Building this up with Campagnolo SR group. Record 32h low flange hubs, bladed spokes on Mavic GP4's. Still need to pick up a pair of tubular tires.
I transplanted all parts from the Trek760 60cm frame. Even though I am 6' tall the Trek felt just a tad too tall. I am glad I was convinced to hang on to this 58cm Pinarello frame.

Very nice. I would date this frame set older than '85. Are you sure?
What I do know is that i LIKE it!
Are you putting on new decals?

Beauty! The onionskin decals prove that it hasn't been repainted! No such thing as an original Pinny with strong decals, as far as I know. No shame at all in replacing the decals. I did, on the one that I owned...
Congrats!

I like it!! There's certainly nothing wrong with replacing the decals, but I also like it as it is. Pinarellos have crappy decals, part of the charm.

I'll play, this is my Pinarello Montello with mainly 600 Ultegra group I got for a good price a few years back. I've worked out it is a 'frame only' Montello as seen in the '85 catalogue: https://bulgier.net/pics/bike/catalog...rello85/9d.jpg. Telling features are the lack of chainstay bridge, external top tube cable guides and seat tube bidon mounts. There is no chrome under the unoriginal paint – whether it was removed or not I’m not sure. All the decals are long gone. When I got it, it had a horrid aluminium fork which I’ve since swapped out for a generic steel job, but I have managed to find an original Pinarello fork that will be going on shortly.
I’ve just removed all components and doing some light rust removal before it goes to the painter (Sun Grpahics) who will be chroming the frame and fork and giving it a coat of ‘midnight blue’ as per the original catalogue image, new decals from Cyclomondo and a clear coat.
When finished at the painters, it will be getting a Campy Chorus 1[SUP]st[/SUP] Gen 8-speed groupset. Also of note is the panto’d Pinarello Cinelli stem it came with.
I’ll throw up some pictures once it’s done.
It lives in Melbourne, Australia.

Here's one for the Pinarello trainspotters. I was cleaning up some minor rust patches and noticed a '10' stamped between the chainstays on the bottom bracket shell:
It's not the serial number - that's on the other side. Anyone know what it might indicate? Does anyone else's Pinarello have a similar stamp?

Pinarello Vuelta. Mix of Campagnolo Daytona and Record. Love it and ride it all the time. The bike likes to go fast and accelerates like crazy. Handling is fast and you got to pay attention.

Back to Pinarello.
Pinarello always looks very well made. I espically like Montello, maybe it's the nice name
But the odd thing with Pinarello is that the models are so similar. I know that the tube angles differ some between the models, but do they ride very differently?
