Not quite but: I was about to post this bike on ebay last November to the ebay/craigslist thread but I made an offer and the seller accepted.

Another one for the list of bikes offered to others that I decided to get for myself: Post 51720
In the end I made the trip to the other side of the country and turned it into my Koga-Miyata SilverAce project.
Current state (2020-jan-27)
Koga-Miyata SilverAce from 1996 (?) I think.
7-speed chromoly frame with FM-3 butted or even FM-1 rifled and butted tubing. Size 63
Would make for a great lightweigh 3-speed commuter.
I would love to pick it up for myself but since I live on the other side of the country and do everything by public transport I can't.

I thought about the question that started this post. I have bought bikes off craigslist. But I have never bought a bike listed in the other thread. I've been tempted, though. I bought a frame that a member bought from eBay. Of the bikes I bought on craigslist, I don't own any of them anymore; I sold them or gave them away.

1984 De Rosa
Here's my find from the Craigslist thread. I disassembled it, cleaned and greased everything. Replaced the wheels and the seat with period correct components and polished everything. It weighs just 20.9 lbs as shown in the after picture. I haven't taken it out on a shakedown ride but that may happen this weekend.

Two from local CL, both gold, both '78s. Peugeot PR10, probably overpaid at $400, but I love the gold paint. It was a commuter bike that was very well taken care of, almost excellent paint and decals. Another gold bike, a $20 Raleigh Super Course, a real project missing lots of important pieces. I was able to put it together, mostly from my spares bin.
Edit: I guess I misread the point if this thread. These bikes were not part of "CL and Ebay finds" on BF, just local CL finds. Sorry that I missed it. Still two of my favorites.
'78 PR10 as bought, missing broken Simplex front derailleur. (Supplied), funky brake levers, stripped pedal thread, nice paint and decals, and Brooks Pro.
The PR10 now, switched to Stronglight 99 crank with English pedal threads, Shimano Exage FD, Campy aero brake levers. Fun bike.
$20 Super Course, as bought.
As built, Exage brake levers, SR Apex crank, Suntour shifters and derailleurs, new Brooks B17. Turned out to be one of my new favorites.

2001 Lemond Tourmalet. A lot of effort and time and too many $$
2004 Airborne Zeppelin Ti,financially, probably the best purchase I have made on a bike.

Like @noglider, I have bought a couple from ads but none that appeared in the other thread. I've posted plenty of finds there and hope I've steered some of you down the path of financial ruin and marital discord. One of mine came from CL (the RB-T that has since moved on to @jeirvine after five years with me) and the recent second arrival was on both CL and FB, but I responded to the FB ad since I saw that first.

I usually don't post things I plan on buying. I did post this Faggin because I was out of town. Jetboy offered to pick it up since it was close by. Advertised as a 58 but ended up being 56cm. I'm a 58-60 and was looking to build it with some spare parts I had. It went from front burner to something down the road.

In no particular order... These are all the "after" shots.
1990 Fuji Ace with mish-mash modern parts. This started out as a trainer/rain/errand/kid-hauler, but it rode so nice that I started riding it more and more. I have since given it to a friend so he could get into riding. He loved riding so much that he bought a new bike and has passed it on to his son, who has since outgrown it (he is now a 6'06" 16 year old high school sophomore...). I miss this bike.
Wife's bike. RB-1 with Campy 10 speed mix.
My new bike. Love it. I should take a better picture now that I have corrected the wonky bar position.
Daughter's first "real" bike. She commuted to school every day -until it got stolen. 😢
Daughter's new(er) bike:
Son's current ride:
Refurbished this for a friend.
Another friend's bike. This one needed a lot of work.
Bought this at a tag sale for $50. Gave it to a friend for cost of consumables.

Too bad that it's too small. I am betting that is a heck of a little bike in the making.

I picked up this pair after seeing them posted on the site. They were a two-fer. I drove 150 miles (one way) to pick them up. The tiny one is long gone but the big one is in my basement. I stripped down the tiny one and sold it as frame and fork. The DA components went onto another bike.

As seen on post 60301 (https://www.bikeforums.net/21946573-post60301.html), I just got this Gitane frameset.
It was in about the condition I expected -- rough paint, some chips in the chrome, but no obvious structural problems. The serial number stamped on the steerer matches the numbers on the bottom bracket.
I'm still not entirely certain exactly what I got. I thought it was probably a repaint, but I don't see any evidence in the usual places (steerer, seat tube, bottom bracket) of any color but red. There are some places where an unsuccessful touchup was attempted.
The tubes are metric sized, the seatpost is 26.4, and the steerer seems to want a French sized stem, but the bottom bracket is ISO threaded. It came with an interesting headset -- the upper bearings have a sealed cartridge while the lower bearings are needle-type.

Andy,
This looks a lot like some of the Trek imports from Gitane in the late 80's. Likely a professional model, but I don't remember what they painted them. I remember a metallic purple and a metallic blue model but that was a bit of time ago. Smiles, MH

1972? Sears Ted Williams Free Spirit
Here's the bike that was referenced by cb400bill in post 60436
I thought I had saved the pics in the FB ad, but alas no. Here are two from when I brought it home a month or so ago.
The 531 frame feels great (but has a couple of fairly small dents in the top tube), and the Crane RD cleaned up really nicely. The lug work (and the rest of the components for that matter) don't really seem to rise to the level of the tubing. I love the color, but I'm not sure it was a great idea to draw attention to the unspectacular lugs with the black highlights. Maybe some POs contribution?
I did swap out the Ava drop bars and Weinmann safety levers for a Velo Orange bar that I had on hand and found some Weinmann levers to match at the local non-profit bike shop. I may still swap out the original steel wheels (and tires!) to make this more fun to ride, but for now this is what it looks like with everything original except the bars, levers, and grips. This is all still pretty new to me (this is just the third bike that I have tried to take down to the frame and restore) so I'd welcome any feedback from those of you whose work I've been admiring on this forum in the past year.
Finally, here's the ad from the 1972 Sears Roebuck catalog. The list price of $189 would be over $1,200 today adjusted for inflation. (Any idea how that compared to other new bike prices of the era?) And someone even paid extra for the kickstand which I didn't reattach.
That looks like a 531 decal, doesn't it?

So this is one I posted myself, so it may not qualify. Then again, I really posted it for others, but just couldn't resist it myself. And I can blame 52telecaster for failing to talk me out of it.
https://www.bikeforums.net/22550935-post69540.html - Found it in a 1987 catalog online (gotta find it again).
Seller couldn't meet me, so he left the bike next to his house, and had me leave the $$ under the mat. That kind of honesty/trust, I paid the full ask. A few "as boughts":
The aforementioned hideous tape job for the computer wire. It's a Cateye Mity, may as well pop a battery in and see WTF
Yet another non-round chainring technology gimmick from the heyday of such things.
Adorable little MKS pedals, light.
Unexpected bonus.
First thing that had to go was the tape over the head badge graphics. Next to go will be the kickstand
I'm guessing "W/O HP" means "without high pressure", which in turn means the rim has no bead hooks. Note to self; watch that dial on the pump...
The rear is only 5-speed, and yes, that's catalog spec. And 120mm; who knew they still made 'em that way as late as 1987. The shifter, however, has enough clicks for 6-speed. So for once, I'm actually tempted to cold set this to 126 and go scout down a 6-speed Accushift/AP freewheel (or two, since another bike could use one).
More of the bike's graphics.
Talk about ticking the check-boxes
- Nice old DC cantis, look crude but are smooth even before lubrication.
- Gotta be some of the earliest Accushift I've seen
- The graphics - Granted, it's no MV, but I still had a craving to put on a Bangles video when I got in the house.
- Indeed the rear is a 40-spoke. If it had 700Cs, I would be tempted to swap wheels (would have to back-swap axles) with my'90 Schwinn DoubleTime hybrid tandem, which, alas, received a generic 36-spoke rear wheel sometime in its previous service life. No way a 27"-er wouild fit that frame. Still, it'll be cool to have here
- Technomic stem was completely unexpected
Nothing is stuck, everything is filthy, but nothing is rusted. Chain is about 2x beyond worn, but the chainring teeth don't appear shark-finned. Brake blocks appear to be a relatively recent replacement, as they're neither hard nor worn. Shifting is sluggish, but only for now. Even with all that, it feels fast and responsive, balanced and stable, and even though it's about a cm smaller than my best-fit Circuit, the fit seems just about right.
Oh, and the seller once again had to remind me about the lights built into the saddle. Well he wasn't kidding:
https://www.bikeforums.net/22550935-post69540.html - Found it in a 1987 catalog online (gotta find it again).
