Pimp My Ride...
I’ve been catching some of the custom car shows on tv. You know ones where someone nominates some worthy soul to get their stalled vehicle project finished by a top custom designer, builder. Money is no object. Show is sponsored by the larger parts chain, individual branded exhaust manufacturers, etc.
There also the shows where one guy goes out and buys the coolest, the most iconic car he can and wheels and deals, getting it for the best price.
There also is the guy that finds the cars left to families by a dad, or an uncle many years ago and the family hasn’t any idea what to do with it or them.
They are fun to watch, but I’m a bike guy.
Hmmmmm...could they do this with bikes?!
Just substitute bike/bicycle for car/truck.
Great old bike, stuck seat post or any other project staller that we have all encountered in dealing with found treasures.
Any thoughts?

Start a YouTube channel, pimping out peoples' bicycles or wheeling/dealing, flipping for a profit. I'd probably watch it

There are some interesting buy and build (or rebuild) threads in C&V.

I've read some behind-the-scenes articles on shows like "Pimp My Ride," and while they might trick out these old POS cars, they never actually fixed the problems the cars might have had in the first place. All they do is take a junk car and add a bunch of unnecessary stuff to it, but most of the time the cars were still POS junkers once they were done.
Still, I wouldn't mind seeing some rehabs of old bikes where they actually fix them up for someone who desperately wants or needs a bike. But for most people that likely wouldn't make for good TV viewing.

It would be a cool premise but alas it could easily get stale.
"Yo dawg we put Dura Ace on your Dura Ace so you can Dura Ace your Dura Ace" - X to the Z Xzhibit
I would love to see more vintage bike restorations and things like that and maybe some pro-builds but doing what X to the Z Xzhibit does and slaps some flame decals on a broken Tercell and adds a Margaritavile blender and salsa dispenser and says "yo dawg" a bunch doesn't work. I wouldn't want to see a repainted huffy with a worn out drivetrain and no brakes and someone saying stupid catchphrases about how cool it is now.

I guess you can be a pioneer. post a video of you pimping bikes on facebook and youtube and start getting likes and shares. not only you will earn on your projects but youtube might also pay you if you'll get thousands of views.

That's what I think.
A bicycle is a pretty simple machine. Once you repaint it, what else are you planning to do? I suppose that gold plated low rider bike has it's place but, once you've seen one, you've pretty much seen them all.

I imagine if you did some video (YouTube) clips of fixing a few 'classic' old bikes, you'd get a few views. But, unless you had Shimano or Campagnolo as show sponsors (which I doubt) it could get expensive on your part.
You could always just rebuild/repair an older bike to make it look new (not necessarily pimped out) and donate it to a needy family. Many years ago, my neighbor lost his job. His kid wanted a bike, but he couldn't afford it. I worked at a car dealership as a technician at the time, so I found a couple of old 10 speeds at the dump, picked the best frame and components, cleaned up the chrome bits and repacked the bearings, trued the wheels, and had the body shop strip, prime, and paint the frame for me. I think my total cost was some new bar tape, a couple of cables, and some brake pads. The bike looked and rode like a new bike, and the kid was thrilled.

I use to own Scrapin Car Club (Lowriders) in Queens, NY. I also had a 1964 impala SS Lowrider with Hydraulics. I have just started getting into the bike scene not for lowriders. If I can give you any input just ask.
