Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

We Nightcrawlers are riding the Ojai Century tomorrow with a time goal. 6:30. It's doable. Will get hot, though, high of 90. Heat kills me, so no promises. More incentive to finish early, I guess. I was doing my usual Heathpack thing, summarizing the climbs and figuring out the pace for various segments of the course, where we'll be when & what the temps will be. Climbs: there are two. Two. That's it. One is 4 miles at ave 3%, max 8.9%. The other is 8.1 miles at 2.9%. My fingers were in disbelief as I typed it out.

New power meter so far is functioning flawlessly.

Nice conversation with coach today on the Piru TT strategy. I will hereby no longer describe myself as "clueless". I'm upgrading to "inexperienced".

Nighty night, y'all.

Doing a ride to 97 mile ride to Montauk today should be fun. I will be trying some new Assos bib shorts and will see if they are better. Enjoy the weekend everyone!

Today's ride is going to be a 65 miler with relatively little climbing (3900 feet).

Cue 248 Modifed May 30 - West Chester, Penna

BTW any Jim Croce fans here? The farmhouse where he lived when he did most of his more famous recordings is just off this route. And his gravesite is practically around the corner from where I live. One of these days I should probably put on a Croce-themed ride where we stop by those places and hum a few bars in memory of a gifted and talented singer/songwriter.

I've always wanted to try the Kuku Penthouse...Does it prevent "Junk Roll-Up"?

Anyhow, about to ride to the shop, install new hanger, derailleur, put the Nokon back on and cable it up. Fingers crossed, this should be the last of my maintenance issues. I need to not whack derailleurs.

What are you schmoes all still doing in bed?! It's 3:40am, the days a-wasting!

Forgot to mention: today is an auspicious day, mile 9000 for the Magic Bike.

I thought you were thinking costs in terms of "numbers of power meters" these days?

That is really sexist, putting a price on the lovely young lady. But I would say 11 and change.

Cool. Bring a towel, stop in the Hamptons, hobnob with the cool kids, take a dip.

Non-stop thunderstorms for us today. I hope to find a sucker hole at some time to ride but the 8-ball forecast is "Doubtful."

Don't expect to find any sympathy from the Texans or Oklahomans.

Or Californians.

Woke up too late for a real morning ride. Just the 4.6 miles to the shop.
