Anyone know what happened to Vetta? Seemed like half the stuff in the 90's was from them. I've had Vetta saddles, computers, an indoor trainer and I don't remember what all else.

Hm, I found a website for them in Italian, I can't post it here / you can search, the home page states:

Just bought this Vetta bike, stamped '98 on the underside of the frame (never mind it won't let me post the pic)
Ah ok, so maybe Vetta frames like this, handmade over 3 generations in Italy, are from a different company entirely than mass produced Vetta cyclometers, helmets, and all manner of stuff in the 90s..?

Still using my old Vetta Lite saddle. "Lite" because of the hollow CrMo rails.

My first helmet was a Vetta, back in 1986. I also have a saddle or two and a plastic rack-top trunk. The trunk acts like an echo chamber, amplifying all the road vibrations.

I also still have a NOS pack of Vetta bar tape. I put Vetta tape on this bike in 1992 and it's still good to go.

I bought this Vetta SL with manganese rails from a take-off bin, probably for about $15, sometime in the 1990s. I just dug it out to do some A-B testing on my mountain bike. It's nice and wide (160mm) and pretty flexible. I don't think it's a leather covering though. Vinyl?
Given the insane prices of saddles these days, I may throw it on eBay if my bum isn't satisfied.

The Vetta bicycle accessories brand was owned by a Swiss company, Orleander S.A. They entered they USA market circa 1982. They seemed to have disappeared, at least from the North American markets, circa 1997, though I donèt know the circumstances. I recall all kinds, of products, including racks, wind trainers, helmets, saddles, bar tape, computers, heart monitors, chain cleaners, etc. Greg Lemond endorsed some of their products in the mid-1980s.

I’m still using a wireless Vetta C-500 computer on the vintage MTB.

The wired one is a C-100 that has been on my road bike since the early 90s. It hasn’t worked well lately but that may be due to an aging pack of replacement batteries. I’m going to get a new supply of batteries and see if that helps.

I like that these computers have actual brackets that attach to the bar. The cheap Cateye units are good but they rely on cable ties which I’d rather not do.

I had a Vetta box and yes without any padding in it everything was rattling but with some padding in it . i liked it, i remember riding to Thunderbird air shows with it and the guys i rode with used it as a secure container while we rode around.. wouldn't mind finding one some day..

Vetta made a lot of nice stuff. The ONLY thing I knew of that wasn't really up to par was their version of the Blackburn low-rider front rack. the Blackburn rack had a front hoop that went to the front top of the rack and then on down to the fork. The Vetta one only joined at the top of the rack and thus was prone to swaying. A friend of mine broke his at the start of a two-weeks long logging/mining road tour.

I have a Vetta saddle on one of my bikes. The saddle used to be white but got badly scuffed when it rubbed against the low stippled ceiling in a stairway as I was carrying the bike up the stairs. I recovered the saddle back in 2001 and used a ladies red leather mini-skirt (I got for $3.95 at a thrift store) for the cover material. that saddle is still going strong.

Just off another thread where someone pointed out that a framset I bought is Vetta, looks like mid 1980s one, made out of Columbus SLE/ Ellitico non-round tubing. Now to resurrect the bike with correct decals....

The Vetta bicycle accessories brand has no relation to the Vetta frame/bicycle brand. The former was owned by a Swiss based company, while the latter was Italian.

I remember those. And the delightful sound they were prone to make as the lid gently rattled against the bottom, and the contents rattled against the bottom of the box...
