I couldn't help but notice this ragged pug parked around town the last 2 years. This bike gets ridden all the time. Witness the judicious use of duct tape, tie wraps and rust to hold the bike together. The seat is always painfully askew. Fork was replaced long ago. I snapped these pics at the Farmers Market last weekend.
Proud owner Dan appears and is only slightly little weirded out by the nutjob taking pics of his bike....turns out his Dad bought the bike new around 1980 and rode it for 4 years of University in New Brunswick. And then toured Europe. And then Dan toured Europe. Now Dan is attending Acadia University in Nova Scotia, riding and smiling. You've gotta love youth.
Here's why his seat is always askew...the post is stuck and the top clamp broke free. He says it's quite comfy. I say he's hardcore and deserves a Carbon Tax credit for this bike.

We were out enjoying the AZ Centennial Celebration at the State Capitol Mall yesterday. Quite a number of people showed up on bikes.
There was a pretty nicely restored classic Schwinn on display as part of the car show:

Spotted this sad International chained up in downtown Miami this afternoon. There's always an interesting bike or two on this corner in front of a Starbucks, but I typically don't stop to take photos...

Went riding with a friend at the beach yesterday, and spotted a few interesting bikes (when I wasn't distracted by the other scenery 
) We bumped into an acquaintance who just picked up a Sun Atlas cargo bike, the first one I've seen in the wild:
This bike is all decked out with "sails" and looks like it would blow over in the slightest crosswind, but the owner manages to keep it upright somehow.
I spotted this Velo Sport chained up last week, but I met the owner yesterday. She and her husband were riding vintage Canadian steel and seemed bemused that someone was taking interest in them. This bike has an early Deore group and an unusual set of Showa racks.

This is pretty exceptional...Hanford Cycles is Simon, who previously worked at Bilenky Cycle Works. I've seen one before - and it was outstanding with Fleur de lys lugs. This one is far more plain jane, but it's a very nice city bike.

man i need to start taking pictures of the bikes i see around here (san francisco). theres some insanely nice ones locked up everywhere i go. tommasini outside my house frequently, a px-10 where i go to school, i see folks riding steel colnagos, de rosas, davidsons, dawes, schwinn paramounts, jack taylors, bob jacksons, faggins, rivendells, claud butlers, bottechias, legnanos etc etc. some of them are beat the hell up too, which i flipflop between liking and wincing at. generally i like well used dirty bikes, but the almost stripped bottechia at trader joes with modern tiagra all over it was kind of weird. also, there was a merckx on the street where i work the other day that had been completely dremeled with all the braze ons hacked off and with horrible riser bars installed. that was bad, i felt like stealing it.

This morning as I was riding into a small town, I saw a high wheel bike turn out onto the street. I thought it was the owner of the bike shop that was around the corner, so I didn't follow him. As I turned into the park, there was another old bike sitting there, its owner taking a break in the shade. While I was filling my water bottle, two more people rode by on old bikes. Four really old bikes in five minutes, I figured was no accident, so I asked the guy in the shade if they were part of a group. They were at the midpoint of a century ride organized by the Ohio Wheelman for their annual meet in Fidlay. He had a Ranger single speed coaster brake with beautiful wood rims. Also last summer... the campus my work is on is split by a 'rails to trails' bike path- I was crossing the path and a gaggle of kids passed by- I was struck that a bunch of them were old Treks. Like, seat-tube logo Treks.

This is definitely one of the coolest bikes I've seen in the wild...Rolhoff hub, Brooks saddles, Caradice bag...it has everything.
