1974 NY Bike Show
Someone posted these recently to a regional forum I used to frequent. Figured you folks would also enjoy them.

In the early 1970's, while in High School, I had a business importing bike frames from the UK and equipping them with Suntour/Sugino/Shimano components for sale. Used my dad's reseller license and actually got into trade shows.
In 1974 I attended one with a pretty nice camera and took a bunch of slides. Just had all my slides converted to digital.
So here's a bit of a blast from the past for you ....

This may not be the 1974 show. I recognize Gian Simonetti. Not sure why he would be wearing a Rexart shirt while he would be working for Masi at the time. Rexart was a Masi dealer, small chance Rexart ran the booth there as they were based in New Jersey.

The girl is Mary Jane Reoch (a.k.a. Miji, Wonder Woman). At the time of this picture she was the reigning National Pursuit and TT championship and had a 4th place finsh at the World's. She would go on to take 11 National Titles and a silver at the World's (1975, Pursuit). After retiring from racing she took up coaching but was killed during a 1993 training accident. She was one of the truly great women of US cycling and a contemporary of Sue Novara and Sheila Young.

I was at the '75 show, NYC at the Jacob Javits Center if I'm not mistaken. Yes indeed, things have changed a lot.

This is so awesome, my all time fave classic era. I see an exxon graftek with a steel or AL fork, so probably after 1974?

IIRC, most trade shows were held at the New York Colosseum at Central Park West and 59th St. I don't think the Jacob Javits Convention Center was completed yet in 75.

Jacob K. Javits Convention Center is a large convention center located on Eleventh Avenue.... The revolutionary space frame structure was begun in 1980 and finished in 1986....
When the Center opened, it replaced the New York Coliseum as the city's major convention facility....

There are other clues to suggest this isn't the 1974 show. Most notably, the Reynolds booth is displaying 753 which didn't become commercially available until the 1976 model year. I believe these pictures are actually from the 17th Annual International Cycle Trade Show, held mid-February 1976, at the New York Coloseum.
