Claud Butler Holdsworthy 531 Frame Bicycles

I would like to learn more about a couple of bicycles I own.

Claude Butlers: I am the original purchaser of these bicycles and (other than not being used for a long time) they are in very good condition. Stickers/decals on the bikes are all in good condition. I originally purchased one for myself and one for may wife. I would appreciate it if someone would have some information about these bicycles. What would the value be for the bikes? Here is the information I have pulled from the bikes.

Majestic Claud Butler Hand Crafted by Holdsworthy

Reynolds 531 Frames

Huret deraillures

One has an IDEALE 80 saddle

S/N of the 1st bike is 024232

S/N of the 2nd bike is 025219

Thank you for your help!

Jon

Hello Jon,

in the event you have not found it already there is a serial number database here covering Holdsworthy products including Claud Butler and Freddie Grubb, but evidently not Charlie Harding.

Frame Serial Numbers

it suggests your two pieces date from ~1980

I purchased the bikes new, probably around 1980 from Nims Cycle shop in Ames Iowa. Still have their original cycle shop sticker and Ames I Iowa bicycle license stickers on the frames.

Are you still in Iowa? I've seen a few Claud Butlers Holdsworth and one Claud Butler (pre Holdsworth) for sale locally over the last year or two. So clearly someone was selling them locally back in the day.

To give you an idea of value we will need pictures (especially of the drive side). The site won't let you post pics until you have 10 posts (this is an anti-spam measure). If you go to introductions and respond to a few posts, you'll hit 10 fairly soon.

Yes, still in Iowa for a few more years. When I get a chance I will take some photos of the bikes and see if I can get them posted in my album then on this thread. Thanks for all the help!

I've bought and sold a fair number of vintage bikes in Iowa so I know the local market well.

The bike is in very good condition. That said the parts are not top end and it looks like the drop outs are huret (not just the derailleur but also the drop out) and that is a bit of a PITA to deal with. Here are the pics:
