bent Comec
Anyone in Silicon Valley that is in to frame building want to fix a Comec frame for us at the Silicon Valley Bicycle Exchange. We got the bike as a donation but can't sell it with a bent frame. It has a wrinkle on the down tube just below the head tube lug.

I'm not sure you are going to find a framebuilder to fix that in an economic way. I could be wrong.

At one time i would agree with straightening a frame and reselling it. But these days unless the bike was something really special I'd likely pass on it. In a time only view parting out a bent bike is often the least costly way to move stuff along.

Only builder I know in the valley anymore is Silva Cycles....have no idea if they would take this on free or otherwise.....lot's of potential liability I would guess

At one time, bike shops had the equipment to do this, but I don't think people are willing to do it any more. I know there are some guys in the C&V forum that will, not sure if any of them are close to the OP
The few times I tried as a bike mechanic, I wasn't really successful. That was on gas pipe though, a nicer bike with thinner tubing might straighten out okay. I'm inclined to say it is not that likely to fail after, but who knows?

I've found that the thicker walled "gas pipe" frames are easier to straighten with less resulting evidence of having been cold set. The thin walled high strength stuff tend to hold it's bulges and dents better. Andy

That makes sense, but it takes a lot of force. Maybe my heart just wasn't in it.
