Sick burn at the bike shop
Dude to his friend: Someone told me wheels are where you want to upgrade first. If you were me, what would you buy first to get faster?
Friend: A salad?

First real high school job was salad bar at a chain restaurant. People would "just get a salad" then drench it in a river of dressing

But...
...it depends.
I picked up a second road bike for my wife and it came with Alex rims and I forget the hubs. She said the bike felt harder to pedal than her old Univega. The wheelset weighed 2600 grams. That's almost 6 lbs without a cassette, tires, or skewers. I swapped them out for some Fulcrum training wheels, not extremely light, but she felt the difference right away.

what would you have them do eat salad with a reasonable amount of dressing like some sort of salad bar peasant. They call it Soup Salad and Breadsticks for a reason your salad should have enough dressing so it is like soup.

Similar to the old answer to the questions of "How can I lighten my bike?" or "How can I train to go faster?"
Answer: Push yourself away from the table.

Depends on the salad.
Something like this wouldn't do much to get me faster
while a couple pounds of this provides fuel for a whole century ride:

Several years ago I read an article about healthy-sounding menu items at national chains. Some of the salads were incredibly heavy on the calories thanks to things like the dressing and nuts. I forget the place, but its Asian sesame chicken salad or whatever it was was significantly north of 1,000 calories. Over 1,300, IIRC. And the amount of sodium was through the roof.

The friend is right! Toting extra pounds up a hill is not a good thing if speed is your holy gail.
Aero bellies are only good for wind drag.

The number of people in this thread that don't want to lose some weight can probably be counted on my left pinky. It just becomes ingrained after a while.

For those who do things in the kitchen: Vegannaise and Greek Yogurt mixed 50/50 are a great way to reduce trans fats without losing flavor if you're making potato salad, etc.
