We are in the Albany, NY area for a few days. Modified my regular searches for this area and this ad from Fort Plain, NY popped up:

Multiple high end bicycles

Nothing my size (he says everything is 54cm), but he does have a couple interesting bikes:

  • 1987 Stowe Phase 3
  • 1981 Lotus Super Pro Aero
  • Late model Serotta Atlanta (not really C&V, but still looks nice)
  • 1982 Austro Daimler touring bike
  • 1997 Merlin XLM Ti mountain bike (again, not really C&V, but interesting)

Anyone else think that swapping out the hoods would make this bike sell much faster. Pink and Red ???

I think the buyer of this bike understands they can change out hoods.

My hatred for those hoods burns with the heat of a thousand suns!

IOW, I would have gone with white or black.

I'm sure if they think about it they do. But as someone who has worked in marketing, you don't want to do anything that would cause someone to even hestitate. Because there are a lot of great looking bikes out there that have matching hoods.

And something that causes some to hesitate provides opportunities for others.

It wouldn't stop me, and I doubt it would stop many buyers at this level of bike.

If you are thinking of buying the Alan make sure you check the lugs very closely. They tend to crack.

Check out the other pictures, it looks super cool! The seat stays and chain stays look like they are bolted on!

"Full 105, tange 1chrome mol. Frame, totally overhauled, new bar tape, rare FUNNY BIKE, if you are reading this you know what it is, if you dont go to Sheldon Browns web site, if ad is up its available, low ball offers ignored paint and all decals in very nice shape, brand is Centurion"

I sincerely wonder if Sheldon would agree that this is a FUNNY BIKE. I wonder if Sheldon would think that, like Georgena Terry's designs, it's meant for a woman or a smaller rider. Maybe Sheldon would just think it's funny.

Agreed, it's just a longer path for the arm and the foot is going to travel the same 170-whatever-mm radius it was going to with a straight arm.

Not just the Pink Hoods but that White tape looks like it weighs more than the Bike.

Any pics of the drive side?

This Gilco Columbus Colnago showed up at the LBS on consignment this week. He wants $1000 CDN for it which I think is a good deal as it comes with a campy BB a stem/handlebar and a spare carbon fork. I wish I could afford it.

It has virtually every item on my grail checklist:
Predominantly red
Lotsa Chrome, including fork
Colnago!
Fluted tubing
Columbus Gilco tubing
Trademark Wild Colnago paint in good condition
One of the last of the classic steel bikes

So how would you finish it off?

This would make a heck of a drop bar conversion:

Selling a vintage 1996 Kona Hei Hei titanium mountain bike frame. 19in, 22.5 in top tube center to center. 26in wheels, v-brake only. These are very very rare. Handbuilt by Sandvik in Washington using American titanium. These were considered the cream of the crop and are a blast to ride. Please contact me with any questions. Thank

That's a great package. It comes with a Ritchie Handlebar but I don't like the weird shape so the nitto is a great suggestion. The stem, I don't know if I like it. It's around a 1992 so I think you could still go with a classic quill if you were so inclined.
I didn't ask about the spare fork brand. I don't think it's Colnago.
Here is the shop if anyone wants to take advantage of it. It's not in the cards for me, sadly.
