Not able to Update DI2 SM-BMR1 (Battery Mount) Firmware

I decided to upgrade from 10 to 11 speed Ultegra so I installed new derailleurs and and the SM-EW90 junction box. My plan is to use my existing external mount battery and my 10 speed shifters as this is supported by Shimano.

Unfortunately when I attempt to upgrade firmware using the SM-BCR2 connected to the EW90 it fails to recognize my battery mount. I read that the battery should be updated on its own first, so I disconnected all but the battery but still no luck. Even tried with a new wire going directly from the batter to the EW90.

If I connect only the SM-BCR2 to the EW90 with nothing else plugged in the e-tube software recognizes the EW90. Once I plug in the battery mount it doesn't recognize either.

Has anyone had this problem updating the battery mount with the BCR2, or do I need to pay a shop to update it with a BCR1? Not really thrilled about having to so that since I paid for a system that according to shimano should work. (Firmware on my existing setup is all over 2 years old)

Thanks for any suggestions.

Greg

Thanks, not a bad video but it doesn't address how I can update firmware on my SM-BMR1 Battery Mount using the SM-BCR2 charger with the EW90 box.

I'm wondering if the only way to update the old battery mount is with the SM-PCE1.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, I just remembered seeing that video and hoped it might be useful. I'm a Campagnolo guy, so I don't have that much experience with Di2

Problem solved. Bike shop was able to upgrade the Firmware on the old battery mount using the odler PCE1 box. Apparently it isn't always possible with the SM-BCR2 charger.
