Specialized Crosstrail Sport Disc

So, I went to my local bike shop this morning with the view of looking at a felt QX75 for my new commute to work and back. When in the shop they suggested that infact for £40 more they could supply me with a Specialized Crosstrail Sports Disk. What are people's thoughts on this bike? It seems like a good brand and a good buy but I have no knowledge to confirm this. The lady in the store explained that the components were higher grade on the Specialized than the felt too?

Hey there. I had the Crosstrail Comp Disc last year (loved it), and my fiancé has the Sport Disc now, and I now have the Expert disc. They are amazing bikes! Fast/nimble/light, rugged. Just enough off road capability to encourage you to hop a curb or take the dirt path. Its a great bike. Back the Crosstrail 100%.

It's a great bike. I bought mine 2 months ago and have very much been enjoying it!

Are you surprised, given the almost £100 difference in price?

That's the strange thing it wasn't £100 more its £40 more. The felt is £459 and the Specialized is £499 although that's £50 cheaper than any other retailer I can see.

I think I'm going to go back and purchase the Specialized. Given the response here and the fact that it is only £40 more it seems the logical thing to do.

Matty,
Is there much difference between your Crosstrail Comp Disc & your Crosstrail Expert Disc?

I'm particularly interested to know how the reworked fork on the 2015 Expert Disc, compares to the fork that came on your Comp Disc from 2013/14.

Hey ColonelSanders, My 2014 Comp disc was an awesome bike for sure! My 2015 Expert Disc is VERY similar to the Comp disc from last year. The components on the 2015 Expert disc seems a bit better than the 2014 Comp disc although just slightly, plus they had added a manual lockout feature (I thought I would hate it but its actually super slick.) IT seems like they took the 2014 Pro and detuned it just slightly to arrive at the 2015 Expert Disc. I think the shock is the exact same from my 2014 Comp to 2015 Expert. Get one, you will love it.

Hi Matty, thanks for your reply.

The Crosstrail is one of the bikes I intend to take for a test ride for sure.

I'm not surprised to hear that there isn't a great difference between the bikes, as the 2014 Comp was such an obvious good bike to begin with, it wouldn't be easy to improve on it and have it be that noticeable.

The reason why I ask about the fork, is that Specialized go into a bit of detail on their website to stress that it is a completely reworked design, so I was curious to see if their efforts were that noticeable to people riding the bike.

Cheers.

I would back this completely. I bought a 2014 Crosstrail Sport Disc 2 months ago. I had been planning to buy a 2014 Elite Disc but I stopped at a LBS and talked with the sales guy and he mentioned that aside from upgraded derailleurs and slightly better brakes there wasn't a huge difference in components between the two. He also offered a good price $675 for the Sport Disc because Specialized had 29 of them left in their Ohio warehouse. I went home and did a little research and felt comfortable going with the Sport Disc.

Because of the weather I've only ridden 6 times so far but I'm really enjoying the bike so far. My only knocks are the stock plastic pedals that I've already replaced with https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and the saddle which I'm struggling with some and I'm thinking about replacing it too. Trying to give it a little more time.

Consider giving a Selle AnAtomica a try - comfortable, right out of the box.
