In the garage during riding season, and I move it to the basement sometime in November when I've mostly stopped riding regularly. In the basement it's on a trainer (unless I take it back out for an actual ride - I got in a nice run the last two Christmas days). I've got about another three weeks before I get it back out.

Yep although not as immediately noticeable as the bike parts. More of an issue when the bikes sit for longer periods. Best solution is just ride them all more
i also have a chlorine pool (I know, tough life!) that may contribute to this. No chemicals kept in the garage but the pool is next to the garage.

I don't know where you live and ride but I am pretty sure every public road in the country has its fair share of every type of nasty substance on it daily. Dead animal remains, rotting litter, animal feces, mud, oil, etc...
Unless you wipe down and sanitize your tires at the end of each ride(and I hope you don't lol)you are bringing a bit of the road into your home each time you ride if you store your precious piece of CF in your living room.
No clue why any lunatic with a garage doesn't leave their bike there year round.
Ride and own it like you can afford it. Goes for all modes of transportation imo.
OCD is ofc a whole nother story

Chlorine pool chemicals and fertilizer are known to be corrosive. Neither is good to have in the same location as your beloved car or bike. I've had people tell me having the pool next to the garage accelerates corrosion on items in the garage. I have no idea if that's true but I can 100% say my vintage steel parts rust and corrode at a much greater rate in my garage than inside my house.

Pretty sure you are not walking in anything even close to what you ride through on the side of a road and thought most civilized people took their shoes off when entering their home

You must have missed my posted where I stated that I once did keep them in the garage. However, a thief decided to steal all of them out of said garage one night along with anything else of value. Now my cars and tools stay in the garage and all of my "nice" bikes are in my house. I have two teenage boys and the garage is often open during the day while they are out shooting hoops or playing something else outside. I really don't like all of my bikes being on display for everyone that drives by.

I've just gotten back into regular cycling with the first new bike I've ever bought with non-paper-route money -- a Trek 7.2 FX.
Where's the best place at home to park it overnight? I've been storing my ancient ten speed in the garage, but the Trek is a bike I actually like and ride.
Should I worry about cold, humidity, varmints? Is it overkill to bring it inside?

That obviously is an exception.
I was ofc referring to the special people that covet their bicycles

Most hang in the basement by my work bench, but I usually have one or two up in the man cave. Kids are all grown and on their own so I converted the master bedroom in my man cave.

My wife won't allow me to keep a bike in the house. It stays in the garage because we live in the country and have a dirt driveway. I prefer it to be out there anyway.

This is my first bike since the Reagan administration. I didn't want to just assume that what was good for an 80s bike was still fine for an Obama one.
