Finally got my wheel back yesterday. What my Sawyer looked likes when I started on it 9am...
Good thing my brother picked the wheel up for me...I could go on and on about the ordeal of the builder....not black spokes!
Just took it around the block and went through all 11 gears and am surprised it was so smooth!
Got a few more odds and ends to do...happy with it for now!

I rode it like that for awhile, and decided to play around with some parts I had lying around:
Now it's got drops, Suntour Command Shifters, E3 Form saddle, wheelset with 32h Mavic rims, 8sp cassette, and Shimano STX-RC rear derailleur. Very different ride, but still insanely fun.

I'd bet you'd want a really long stem on many hybrids before a drop bar would work as they tend to have a short cockpit. and then, that would put your steering out over the axle, which is funky.

speaking of racks... I was thinking of getting the rather light and strong axiom journey for my globe.
https://www.axiomgear.com/products/ge...eries/journey/
It would msotly be used for jandd 'grocery baskets' that I have. with mots racks I've used so far, my heels clip them, so I'm thinking they need to ride farther back, which this rack should do.

OK, at the risk of ruining my hybrids reputation here I'm showing my bike with drop bars. A little imagination needed here, I just wanted to get an idea of what it might look like.
Seeing other conversions I thought it was a good idea but not anymore, with this frames geometry and stem angle it looks wrong, opinions welcome but I'm not going though with it.
The money saved will go to building a proper MTB, I nearly pulled the trigger on a Niner mcr9 frame but got side tracked by a killer deal on a VooDoo Canzo FS 29er frame. There's no hurry seeing as I'm not able to ride yet.
Looks better at this angle, the ride position is nice but still not worth it. I'll just admire other peoples conversions.
This is a better option cutting 30mm off the flat bar. It makes a big difference and I could take another 20mm "total 50mm" off but this is more sensible leaving the FSA logo uncovered.

Anyway, the 29er is the go.
Also, how's your clamp zone on your bars? Is it far enough in, for 25mm each site to be cut?
PS. Love that red soil.

Actually sitting on it the contact points feel right, it's a 110mm stem also but when I look down at whats under me it feels odd. I think it's just not men't to be and best I forget it.
The flat bars will work as pictured with 30mm cut each end, there's more clamp area than riser bars.

I took the rack off my Electra Crusier...surprised that seat post clamp fit! not sure about it...I just like being able to zip tip a milk crate or strap other stuff to it.

Sadly it's snowing lightly outside and heavy in the mountains. I'm hanging to do some climbing with it but that will have to wait for a few months I guess. I will try to give it a bash on the flats later today if the snow eases . To be honest I won't know if it's quicker as I don't have a computer on it, and haven't for a few years so I can't make a comparison. I'm hoping the tyres will give a "crisp" (???) feeling on the road when climbing, and smooth fast feeling when descending, although descending fast isn't my priority on this bike.
These changes are supposed to make my mountain road touring more pleasent. The stem is a little shorter and at right angle with my fork hence maybe about 17 deg, instead of horizontal to the road as the previous one was set up.

Blue Collar Bianchi
I've tried adjusting to the modern hybrid bike, but I don't like jarring aluminum frames and the locked-down nature of threadless headsets. Without shocks, aluminum frames are scary off-road. I prefer a buttery ride, so I've gone back to steel. I've outfitted a few '90's cross bikes with different parts to accommodate a 6'2" rider. My latest is a '91 Bianchi cross bike with the unfortunate name, Boardwalk. It's my current favorite, having a 23" frame, whereas most are limited to 22". This one got a new seat, seatpost, stem, bars, shifters, cables, tires, and pedals. A lot of the stuff was used, and inexpensive. I don't get worked up over primo components. The main thing is to get the grips up to seat hight to afford a moderate lean. The white paint on this one offered a new theme to riff.

I learned about Specialized Crossroads on these forums and turned to CL to find them. Within 6 months, I had three of them, of different vintage, from the early to late 90's. Too bad the largest size is limited to 22", but I make-do with riser handlebars. Each is different animal depending on the tires I install. The Kenda Hybrid Nimbus and Hybrid Knobby are excellent and inexpensive. These bikes have a light, buttery ride, handle a variety of terrain, and are cheap to boot. Later, I found a Miyata TripleCross with a slightly taller frame and Bontrager H2 tires. I added a tall seat and quill stem, sprung seat, riser handlebars, and bam!

Forresterace, your Sirus and the backstory are very interesting. Since it has shorter chainstays than most touring bikes, how is the handling? I no longer have my Trek 520 for loaded touring, and have thought about carrying rear panniers on my Specialized Diverge, but have wondered how it would handle. I see that you have done both credit card and fully loaded, so you look like the person to ask.
