I was given a set of 2x10 SRAM Force brifters and SRAM Red FD. On a budget build of sorts, 2006 CAAD8. Going to visit my local bike collective this weekend, looking for compatible RD and brake sets. If I understand correctly, SRAM road shifting is equivalent to Shimano, so 105 or better ought to work. Same with calipers, most ought to work...

A Shimano rear derailleur will not work with Sram shifters. The pull ratio (2 to 1 vs 1 to 1 approximately) is different. Any 10 speed Sram road derailleur will work. As far as brake calipers, depending on the year model, Sram and Shimano are a little different as far as pull ratios go, but in a pinch, pretty much any brake caliper will work.

Ah, I was given bad info about the derraileurs. Thanks. I about accepted an Ultegra RD for this project. Thanks.

I have a SRAM Apex brakeset on another bike, with 105 brifters, I can use those I guess. And put the Tektros back on. But the Apex are white. Might not "look" the best, but gets me closer...

You can use the Tektros. Any RD that says "Exact Actuation" will work with your shifters.

I'm going to guess an 11 speed RD, like the SRAM NX11 would not work properly with the Force 10 speed brifters?

The Force shifters are "Exact Actuation" and the NX derailleur is "X Actuation", so they won't work together. 10 or 11 speed doesn't matter, it just has to be "Exact Actuation"

For what it's worth, I'm using Force 10 speed levers with Dura Ace 7800 brakes and they work perfectly - at least it sure feels that way to me.

If you look on ebay, there's always lots of Sram RDs up for sale, various lines, various colors. I don't think you'll have any trouble finding a nice condition Force 10 speed for $30-40 fairly quickly, less of course for Rival and Apex. Just went through that process to match the above levers.

I have a Force RD available- 10 speed, barely used, if you're interested.

Fits up to 28t cassette.

Appreciate that. But scored a Rival RD, and some no name brakes, likely unmarked Tektro, when picking up parts for a different bike... Thanks!

Of course, I then find the Red FD I already had is not going to fit my 2006 CAAD8 frame. Too small for that fat seat tube... Ugh. One step forward, one back.

So new question... Shimano and SRAM Front Derailleurs interchangeable?

I can stop at my local collective Tuesday when I'm back in town...
