Ok... So after a handful of pages, what is the chain lube that has caused all of the ruckus?

Am I the only one here who suspects this might be part of an elaborate scheme by some big bike manufacturer to reintroduce shaft-drive bikes?

Fourth, sodium metasilicate, being a caustic chemical, is not very friendly to your skin. Most cleaners labeled as butyl-free will be highly alkaline so be careful when you use them. Also, they they may damage aluminum components.

I browsed Aaron's site and applaud their energy towards an environmentally conscious life, though I was not able to find the particular statement that you attributed to them. Still, this is one more example of how misinformation is plaguing our modern world.

Here's a link to the Simple Green Safety Data Sheet

As a side note: Aaron's site has a picture of Thomas Stevens on their index page but don't identify this fascinating man who did an around the world trip in the late 1800s on his Columbia ordinary.
The link you posted is for Simple Green Australia:

The MSDS for Simple Green in the USA has different ingredients:

https://cdn.simplegreen.com/download...oseCleaner.pdf

True, they do not currently show 2-BE listed. I will research this more to see if this was a past ingredient. But know that it is quite common these days for a chemical or drug to be banned in one country for health reasons, and a company keeps right on using it in other countries.

Thanks for pointing this out. To me, the 2 SDSs linked above look essentially the same. Although most countries require preparation of SDSs per the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) for classification and labeling, they may not use the same revision of this standard. There have been 7 revisions; however the US still uses the 3rd until next year. This typically results in SDSs for identical products to look slightly different.

It appears that it has been. Here's a link to the chemical's listing in the Household Product Database. There are a number of Simple Green products listed among a huge number of other products that use 2BE.

Also for political reasons.

I don't want to name the product unless I get some corroborating evidence. Companies are known to go after people who diss them online. Also it would be unfair to the company if it is not true.

I think I am leaning to the side of there being nothing to it. So I won't say anything more.

If anybody has anything to add about more eco friendly and healthy chain lubes I would be happy to hear it.
Fish oil has plenty of omega-6.

That's healthy.

Thanks guys for researching this. It shows how careful you have to be about information online. It appears that the info about simple green was based on an older formulation. Probably still a good idea to use gloves and make sure you have good ventilation when using these kinds of products.
