The Stick
No foam roller at the local sports stores so I stumbled upon 'The Stick'.
Found it slighty blogged about here solobreak. Scroll down to 'Stick and a promise'.
P.S. If you have one, please post which one (or which one you wished you would have got).

I have the short one with the red handles. I like it. It's really good for massaging calves and hamstrings, which are hard to self-massage with just my hands.

I use mine occasionally. It does a pretty good job of deep massaging muscles (especially quads, hamstrings, calves, and lower back).
Mine's the full sized model, but the shorter travel model may be more convenient (though perhaps harder to self massage your back with).

I've also got the travel stick (shorter, red handles). I love it. I use it every couple of days on my calves and hamstrings. Seems to be absolutely worth the price to me.

I tried one after Sea Otter; they had a booth there. It was okay, but I felt that I could get a better result with the foam roller. Performbetter.com has a lot of options: https://www.performbetter.com/SearchR...tegoryID_E_363 and they're a lot cheaper.

I've had both the full-size stick (blue handles) and the smaller one (yellow handles). The bigger one is actually much stiffer and I liked it more. Either one is totally worth it, though. I found that the Stick works better for calves and foamrollers work better for quads, IT, and adductors. The Stick does fine for your quads, etc if you can't get a foamroller, though.

I always thought foam rollers had handles, kind of like 'The Stick'. Looks like you use foam rollers by rolling on them?!?

I guess I owe the guy at Academy an apology. He looked at me funny when I was trying to explain a foam roller and he was holding one right in front of my face. I was thinking 'rolling pin'.

Have "The Stick" and love it! I take it with me all the time, travel with it when I travel to a ride. Loaned it to lots of friends when in Tucson and everyone now wants to get one.
Works great for helping massage out cramping and tired muscles. Highly recommend it.
Edit: Just looked at those foam rollers... yuck! No way would I want to use one of those, no handles or any way to use it while seated or on an airplane. Both of which I can do with "The Stick".

The Travel Stick that Performance is plenty - no need to spend more money. Works great and really makes a difference; reduces soreness and speeds recovery by allowing you to work out the lactic acid. Bought one for my brother last christmas and he gave it a thumbs up as well (he is a runner). Good stuff for sure.

I've used a stick for at least 3 years now (I have the travel size)...I absolutely love it, but it has recently been replaced by a new "up-and-coming" product; check out www.t-roller.com
t-rollers are just like sticks, but I think they are much more beneficial in actually offering a type of massage for soft tissue.

imho, foam rollers do a deeper massage but take more work & effort to get in the right positions, etc... 5 mins with the stick and I'm good to go. I <3 mine (woohoo, I used that, a myspace account has to be right around the corner. Eternal youth here I come! Atleast, eternal immaturity).
