February already. I can tell the days are getting longer, yes!
Let’s pick up the pace here, or might need to make these Carbo threads bimonthly!

Got a puncture on the way home today. Of course it’s in my new back tire with less than 300 miles on it rather than the front that’s pushing 4,000 miles. Oh well, Orange Seal did its job, I kept rolling, though it makes a mess on the seat tube, stays, etc.

built my old Felt back up to re purpose as my panda Crit racer this season. I don't want to risk crashing my Pinarello and this has been sitting in the corner of the garage since I got the Pin.
Pretty light, Sram Force 10s shifter and Ds, Red standard cranks, Zipp course cockpit, narrow 40cm feels weird for now, scored a Fizik ANTARES R3 from offerup for $25. Same saddle on my pinarello but panda colors. Old tubeless wheelset with ceramic bearings. Mounted GP5000TL 25c in tubeless. First time trying these but a big fan of the GP4000s. I have 1.5oz of sealant in there.

Between Zwift and outdoors I nearly hit 500 miles in January. Lost about 10 lbs too. Training for the AIDS/Lifecycle this year seriously. I plan to be at my best weight and fitness by time ride gets here at end of May (Day 1 is May 31). Tackled La Tuna Canyon for the first time this weekend. I did the climb w/o stopping. That can be difficult when you don't know what to expect at least for me. I am still not speedy climber but the lighter I get my engine...the better that will get. This Saturday is the EXPO for AIDS/Lifecycle and I am going to be a "training ride leader" on the beginner ride before the expo. I have never gone to Expo in my previous years. They have a gear swap so will bring older cycling jerseys and bibs/shorts that I never wear that someone might be able to use. Some riders are so new that they have virtually nothing in the form of cycling clothes. I have some Fizik shoes I never wear...will donate those I think too.

I think I've ridden about 2 feet so far in 2020, but I did go to France for a week for vacation! Just got back Saturday, still coming down from a food-high. France may have bumped Italy off the top rung of favorite foreign countries, it was that good.
There are only 89 Michelin 3-star restaurants in the world and we ate at one of them in Burgundy. Amazing food, eye-watering price.
Time to fire up the bike.

Someone call Captain Ahab as there was a great white whale beached in my hallway.... yup, wool socks and laminate floors mix like oil and water. My feet shot out from under me backward and I took out my left shoulder and right knee.
I will be sore, but will survive.

I done rode my bike OUTSIDE, y'all!
Did the tour of palm springs with my wife & some friends. She's having knee issues (had an additional 30 cc of gunk removed on Thursday before our ride) so we did the 50. You know what? It was really nice to go 50 miles! You don't end up feeling knackered and eating everything in sight, and there's still time in the day to do something else.
Fun.

Some of my Unlikely Cyclist pals did the 50 as well as my New Bear Republic team members. If you saw anyone with brown fuzzy ears on helmets...that would be them.

A couple of days/week I have to leave for work between 6:15 and 6:30. It's nice not having to make the entire drive in the dark.
It's literally freezing here today, but is supposed to be in the mid-50s by late tomorrow afternoon and hit 56 on Sunday. I may actually ride my bike that day.

Garmin v. Strava:
Friday afternoon ride - 21.55 miles, 14.6 mph average, 1:29 moving time, 1,060 ft of elevation gain, max HR 159 bpm. Garmin 520+ said 15 hours of recovery time. Strava said this ride was consistent with my usual effort.
Today’s ride - 57.54 miles, 17 mph average, 3:23 moving time, 1,785 ft of elevation gain, max HR 158 bpm. Garmin said just 11 hours of recovery time, but Strava says this was harder than my usual effort.
Same bike, FWIW. Something doesn’t compute on the Garmin recovery algorithm.

Gamin's math doesn't seem right...
today's ride with new wireless JBL headphones. I should have gotten these long time ago. 8hr run time they claim. Left bud is wrapped n hooked around the rear band on the helmet. Cordless is NICE!!

See how long they last, got the extra warranty from best buy for another $10 if they fail in 2yrs. Ez swap program

Only time I ever hit 50mph I was pedaling my heart out, on Carmel Mountain Road downhill westbound towards PQ blvd with a santa ana at my back.
(And even there, my cyclocomputer was accidentally set for B wheels (26"), to get to 50 I had to math it up to 700 and round up from like 49.8 or something)
