new to me! but if it has BSC threading with Columbus tubes and the over-BB-cable routing, it has to be something custom...I'd say American. Is the BB shell ID-able, say like a Cinelli unit?

The drain hole in the BB is pictured in the top left hand corner. Sorry, it is the only picture I have of my 1976 Marinoni's bottom bracket cutout. Of course, the Fleur-de-lis cout-out is mimiced in pantograph on several other places on the frame and fork set...

You should post pics of this bike in the Obscure Bikes thread. I know Zanella made many mid-level frames, but I also know they made at least one super-frame that was used to promote Campy's 50th Anniversary gruppo. I recall seeing a guard's red Zanella kitted out with Campy 50th in Robb Report magazine in 1983.

winter project: a mysterious italian frame.
supposedly—at the point of sale—a bastard frame from Master Freschi,
and later turned out 'not sure' as the seatpost cluster was the only provenance of Freschi's.
anyway. it has this cool-ish ventilation fan like cut-out with external cable routing paths on its CBT shell.
(the frame has CBT dropouts too). not painted yet.

Procrastinateur supreme
Does anyone have any thoughts as to why Cinelli chose to cast this spoiler? Seems like a lot of extra work and extra metal just to make a platform for the Cinelli logo - was there another reason for it? Does this model predate the later recessed-flat-logo one that Robbie posted? Was the spoiler put there for the logo because it was the first investment cast BB? If it wasn't the first, who made the first?

The BB with spoiler is later than the flat logo, the spoiler one was used in the late 80's to mid 90's.

Probably Cinelli wanted to both solve a couple "problems" (like integrating cable tunnels and reinforcing webs, as well as providing a "cover" over the vent slots) but mainly I reckon they wanted to look modern, cool and "aero". They had already done 2 earlier IC BB shells before the spoiler was introduced.
The IC process has some great advantages as it allows very complex shapes (internal surfaces) and maintains great detail, but the master pattern is lost (as in lost-wax casting) since you must melt it out of the mold before you cast...so it's kind of "wasteful".
Earlier cast shells (like Georg Fisher) date back to pre-war times but these were sand-cast, not lost-wax or investment-cast...at least that's what I've read.

Well that looks familiar!
(Sorry for the crappy phone flash photo.)
I picked up this Pinarello a few days ago, have just started to investigate what year it is, so interesting that yours is an '89. Are you the resident Pinarello expert, Old Yeller? Can I PM you?

Not an expert but learned a lot researching my own Pinarello. Feel free to PM me if you want.
