Got lucky and hit a "window" between rain showers this morning. I had about decided to drive if it was foggy or raining this morning, after struggling to see the road on my ride home yesterday afternoon with a heavy mist totally fogging up my glasses. It started raining heavily soon after I got up this morning, but the line of showers passed by the time I was ready to leave and the fog had lifted. It turned out to be a great ride with temps in the mid-40s, but I had to take it easy on corners due to very wet streets. Skidded to stop at one traffic light that changed to red right before I got to it. My Craft rain jacket is perfect for riding in this kind of weather, but gets too warm when temps are higher than the mid-50s.

I was not able to ride this am due to a snow event we are having. I am not equipped to ride in the snow. So I took the vehicle today. May this snow go away soon so I can commute by bike again soon.

I drove my car today. Even that presented some challenges, as a jungle had fallen on it.

33º. Coldest commute yet. My gloves - Castelli insulated full-finger - were pretty much worthless. 30 minutes into my commute, and my fingers were completely numb from the cold. Maybe I'll try my duck hunting gloves next time.

18F with an unusual slight tailwind. We've been under flood watch for almost a week and one of the bad spots is on the MUP I use. Yesterday one of the bridges that goes over the river was about 6' from raging water - it's usually about 30' feet down! I can tell today it's dropping - pretty spectacular

Still raining and approaching flood levels along the creek. Already I was riding through three inches of water in several places.
I tend to watch it pretty closely and I highly recommend checking the National Weather Service's "Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service" The predictions are hit and miss but the current water levels are always dead on and valuable to know. If it only gets over the banks by half a foot as predicted for Friday I can ride through it but there are other higher spots that don't drain to the creek which can get much deeper depending on how fast the rain comes. It seems strange to me, formerly of arid climes, but if it rains steady all week I'll be ok on that route but just one really hard rain and I'll have to go around.

28 degrees with remnants of some freezing fog action. There were a few slick spots, so I took it slower than usual.

It was the first commute in over week without rain, sleet, and/or freezing rain. It was above freezing (34F), still very cloudy but I was warm and dry the whole way. In fact, I wore a fleece pullover where I normally wear a wool sweater. The fleece was actually a little too warm.

I can't use polyester fleece when I do any physical activity. I always get too hot.

Cool and drizzly going home last night. Cooler and even rainier for the ride in this morning sigh tenors holding in the upper thirties. Forecast now calling for several inches of snow tomorrow afternoon. Wasn't planning on riding to work tomorrow anyway due to after work plans, but now I'm bunged about that because it could be a good opportunity to really use my studded tires. It'll be interesting to see what the weather actually brings.

Cold weather never seems to be a problem here in Athens, although it's not always sunny either! For the past few days we've been having high southerly winds keeping the temps in the mid to high teens (Celsius) accompanied by a lot of rain! I managed to avoid the worst of it while commuting to and form work, but today was definitely not worth commuting because of the gusting winds and the driving rain.

I'm trying, Telly, but I'm not having any success gathering up sympathy for your discomfort.

Telly (post 189) - Great pictures, especially the one in the center with the bike. That pic says it all

Had to drive today due to an early offsite meeting. Driving always reminds me how much I'd rather ride.

+1, with scenery like that I think I'd walk if riding was too tough! Drove today 'cause have an outside appointment. It was above 30F and I felt like I was missing something

Cold. 5 °F (-15 °C) but fortunately not too windy. The ***** in my armor is currently my gloves, but I forgot to put on my wool liners, which would have helped.
I love the squeaking noises the snow makes at colder temperatures.
Edit: Haha auto-censor. Clbuttic.

Replacing my cassette and chain last night made the ride smoother - I'm easily pleased I guess. It's still raining, temperature dropping, we're even forecast for snow this evening! On the bright side the weather service has backed off the prediction for flood level at the creek so my feet should stay dry.

Wonderful ride into work. My wife dropped me off at a trailhead on her way to one of her clinics. So my entire ride was on a MUP. 1st time ever that my entire ride was on a MUP. It will be the bike for me every day this year with the increases in tax withholding, property taxes, & homeowners insurance!

On days like today, the most hazardous portion of my commute is the walk across the ice covered patio to the garage.
