Haven't commuted in over a week, was still working out of town. Today I am back for a couple days but still too much snow on the shoulder of the roads. Have to wait for a while I guess. Really cold sub zero weather is forcasted for next week so if it clears up I may be back in the saddle.

No riding for me today. One of those rare days when I'm meeting my wife and eight month old after work in the city, which meant metro made more sense, so I took the train in this morning.
We're going to a special fan appreciation event hosted by the Washington Capitals. So glad that it will soon again be "game on!" for the NHL. I've been missing my hockey.

Finally warming up here. Today's temperature at 10:00 AM was 44 degrees, 15 more than it has been lately.
No numb toes or fingers, a first for 2013. I was sweaty when I got to the Cycling Center, so glad we installed a public shower. Customers are probably happy about that, too.

Great day for riding... no rain again! Temperatures are slowly working their way back to normal (i.e. above freezing).
Oh, and 2 more sleeps till the Canucks game!

A somewhat invigorating 25ºF this morning rising to a somewhat tepid 46ºF this eve... when will winter finally arrive? But still, I had a wonderful commute in to and back from work. Too bad the days are lengthening already and I had to commute in partial sunshine... anyone else here prefer riding under a starry sky?

The entire day has been foggy and freezing. At morning, it was still okay as drivers see me. At night, it was too foggy that my lights couldn't shine anything beyond 20meters. All i saw was a cloud of fog. That was a scary ride. Luckily all drivers were driving slowly.

I am sad today
I had to take the subway in to work because I needed to see how the streets/cycle lanes looked after a week of seeing family in the US.
I should be able to ride tomorrow but it looks like Frankfurt got some snow when I was gone and that it has formed ice
Also, it seems to be a little colder in Frankfurt now ... -2C/28F ... but I did see a few people riding

I wanted to ride ssssoooooo bad this morning -- the first day with sunshine this week -- but it just wasn't safe. We had a quickly moving "snowstorm" last night that dropped about 2" of snow after dark and there was lots of black ice on roads this morning. This was my most challenging week for bike commuting since we had 9 days in a row of temperatures over 100 F last July. It rained every day this week until today, and it felt like an accomplishment managing to ride two days.

We missed out on the snow, and there was no black ice but I was forced to an alternate route due to rising water levels. I was startled to pass by another commuter this morning. In wet freezing weather, on those roads, I've never seen one in before. He was probably detouring just like I was now that I think of it.

You guys in the south got all the precipitation (ha ha), but we're getting the cold from our friends in Canada - next week's highs are supposed to be in the upper teens. This morning was 18F, very dry, not a cloud in the sky. It's supposed to get to 40F this afternoon - and then the arctic blast. How do you guys make the little 'degree' symbol?!

-7C w/ wind -16C. Nice and sunny.
Didn't feel that cold, but I can tell it's cold, because I didnt see any other riders.

Had a chilly 25F ride in the morning as the sun was coming up, and a windy 57F ride back this evening. I envy you folks that can ride in the dark in the evening...our roads are not marked for bikes and the drivers don't always acknowledge me, even with a big safety jacket on and lights front and back. But it felt really good to ride in January.

I have a Swedish keyboard with a "degree" symbol
°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
and an Ångström symbol
ÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅÅ
both of which come in handy with technical writing!

ALT + 0176 on the numeric keyboard, works on all Window programs °
Hold down the ALT key while typing the appropriate number on the numeric pad see attached Acrobat document.
Ångström symbol on a standard English Keyboard is ALT + 0197 Å

Yesterday, the fog was really dense. The entire city was covered with black ice. I crashed twice, and I'm glad that I didn't hurt badly. The first one was really scary, cuz a pickup truck was passing right next to me.
Stay safe.

It was yesterday, but:
I've found that the worst snow is the compacted tracks left by cars. This was one I didn't see, and the front wheel got away from me. I'm usually able to kick myself back up, but I wasn't paying attention and probably slowing too quickly anyway.
No injuries except to my pride.

I rode my full work commute for the first time today. There's a stretch I'm just not strong enough to get through on my 3-speed. Chipped away at it. Once I got over that part, the rest was easy, and I continued another 5 miles past work.
Been looking at a GT Zum City.
I also have an old Bianchi Volpe on loan. Fast. Not sure my spine likes it though.
The 3-speed is awesome until I hit a particularly long or steep hill. Then I'm pretty sure I'm about to die.

-20 celcius this morning and my freewheel froze, I had to keep the chain constantly under tension, not very funny. I'll have to clean and lub it tonight. Still my 27.2 kms commute took 1h32, not bad.
